November Quiz - Answers & High Score Alright, we managed to get to a crowd of 85, that's quite good. Four of you were even able to get the themes as well as the games completely correct, good job! Let's start with the themes, followed by the games, then the pictures and at the bottom you'll find the High Score. THEME 1 - Super Mario - 1 4 8 12 14 Almost everyone has gotten the plumber. This theme was easy thanks to the prominent character. solved by: 95% THEME 2 - Orcs - 3 5 9 20 23 Orcs are such a standard enemy for video games. They might look a bit different each time, but this theme was still quite easy for you. solved by: 92% THEME 3 - Christmas - 2 6 13 18 21 Now it gets more abstract. Here you had to connect the Grinch and Jack Skellington with Christmas, even without visual cues like red/white clothes or the "Die Hard" Christmas tree. solved by: 88% THEME 4 - Angels - 11 15 17 19 25 This one was tricky. While three pictures where still easy to spot as angels, number 15 shows a monster that you can only classify as "Angel" if you know the anime it is based on. Then there's the lady on picture 17, who is named Angel. Respect if you got this right! solved by: 60% THEME 5 - Peter Molyneux - 7 10 16 22 24 These five games are connected only by the star game designer Peter Molyneux. A quarter of you got this right - more than I had expected. solved by: 25% Positions: - - - GAMES - - - 1) Super Mario Bros 3 Half points for other Mario Games, with the exception of Mario Maker (clever). solved by: 84% other suggestions: - 2) The Grinch Nobody got a half point here, and thus the Grinch (Dreamcast Version) is the easiest game of this round. solved by: 94% other suggestions: - 3) Warcraft 3 solved by: 82% other suggestions: World of Warcraft, Ogre 4) Super Mario RPG solved by: 87% other suggestions: - 5) Lego the Hobbit Not the Lord of the Rings (half point), but instead the Hobbit. A bit mean. solved by: 68% other suggestions: Lego warcraft 3 6) Nightmare before Christmas solved by: 76% other suggestions: Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories, Beetlejuice 7) Theme Hospital solved by: 65% other suggestions: Sim Hospital, Invisible Man, Die Sims, A Christmas Caroll 8.) Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit This is NOT Super Mario Kart 8 (not deluxe either!), plenty of half points here. solved by: 74% other suggestions: - 9) Gothic The very first Gothic, still very blocky. solved by: 61% other suggestions: World Of Warcraft, Goblin Commander: Unleash The Horde 10) Fable The cover of the first entry of the Fable series. solved by: 86% other suggestions: Dragon Quest 11) ActRaiser solved by: 49% other suggestions: Wonder Boy, Popolous, Kirbys Adventure, Kid Icarus, Final Fantasy 12) Mario is Missing Half points for other Mario titles. solved by: 65% other suggestions: - 13) Christmas Lemmings solved by: 59% other suggestions: The Snowman 14) Super Princess Peach A platformer where you control the princess. Our favourite italian is on the picture, so this title belongs to the Mario theme... but it's not a Mario GAME, so no half points for other plumber titles! solved by: 66% other suggestions: Mario, Super Mario, CD-i Mario, Paper Mario, Mario Teaches Typing, Mario Party DS, Mario is missing, Mario and Luigi Partners in Time, mario and luigi bowser's inside story, Mario & Luigi: Abenteuer Bowser 15) Neon Genesis Evangelion License game to the anime series for the N64. Fight strange Monsters called "Angels" in your Mecha - picture shows the first of the invaders. solved by: 40% other suggestions: Virtua On, santa clause jr. advance, Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance, Kid Icarus Uprising, Digimon 16) Black & White 2 That's the evil part of your conscience from the 2nd Black & White, much more detailed than in the first part. solved by: 56% other suggestions: Spore, Litil Divil, God of War 3, Dungeon Keeper 17) Wing Commander This is your love interest in Wing Commander. Her name? Angel. solved by: 51% other suggestions: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 18.) Daze before Christmas A very christmasy platformer for the Sega Genesis. solved by: 49% other suggestions: Weihnachten, Santa Claus, James Pond 2: Codename: RoboCod, Crazy Santa adventures 19) Messiah If you're not possessing some random humans, you are flying around as a little angel. solved by: 69% other suggestions: Bayonetta 20) Hero Quest solved by: 48% other suggestions: Warcraft Adventure, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Labyrinth, Dungeons and Dragons 21) Die Hard A somewhat different Christmas movie. solved by: 44% other suggestions: True Lies, Christmas IK+ 22) Magic Carpet solved by: 29% other suggestions: prince of persia 1&2, Populous, Kid Icarus, Aladdin 23) Orcs must die 2 got mixed up again - now all parts of the series give the full point. solved by: 54% other suggestions: World of Warcraft, some orc game! 24) Curiosity – what’s inside the cube Experimental team game by Peter Molyneux, hardest title of this round. solved by: 20% other suggestions: Sphere Tale, Pyramids of Ra, Puzzle Scape, Pink Blocks, Picross 3D, Overcooked!, Marble Madness 25) Chubby Cherub An old NES game - save your friends as a little chubby angel. solved by: 44% other suggestions: Kid Icarus Here's the quiz image again: Answers: Direct link: https://i.imgur.com/0qkEEkZ.png HIGH SCORE 01 - 30 points - rta - residentgrigo 01 - 30 points - rta - EarthPainting 01 - 30 points - hcg - excelsior 01 - 30 points - ntl - lifer 05 - 29.5 pnts - mtc - Wibblewozzer 06 - 29.5 pnts - mnc - Gerhard S. 07 - 29.5 pnts - hcg - teroknor 08 - 29 points - hcg - windfisch 09 - 29 points - rta - AuraPaladinne 10 - 29 points - eab - Nobby_UK 11 - 29 points - mtc - Parsnip 12 - 28.5 pnts - spz - Striderblade 13 - 28.5 pnts - eab - darkwave 14 - 28 points - rpg - J.R. 15 - 26.5 pnts - rta - Roarer 16 - 26 points - mmx - fedprod 17 - 26 points - pcx - Splunge 18 - 25.5 pnts - mnc - Mangamaniac2171 19 - 25.5 pnts - rpg - Calastellio 20 - 25.5 pnts - spz - The_BACH 21 - 25 points - m!g - Kong 22 - 24.5 pnts - mmx - Knuckles 23 - 24.5 pnts - mtc - Valdien 24 - 24 points - gsg - partykiller 25 - 24 points - rta - malus 26 - 24 points - gms - hellermarie 27 - 23.5 pnts - mtc - mssq 28 - 22.5 pnts - rta - Illusionary 29 - 22 points - can - Strife 30 - 21.5 pnts - mnc - Dreamteam 31 - 21.5 pnts - eab - Biscuit 32 - 21 points - pop - Don Como 33 - 20.5 pnts - can - Dark Kariya 34 - 20.5 pnts - mmx - Linkey 35 - 20.5 pnts - mmx - Klunky 36 - 19.5 pnts - gms - kopyright 37 - 19.5 pnts - gpo - rave 38 - 19.5 pnts - ntl - JoakimZ 39 - 19.5 pnts - eab - Havie 40 - 19 points - gav - Wizdom 41 - 19 points - m!g - SonicFanNerd 42 - 18 points - can - Franky Mikey 43 - 18 points - can - Kulfy 44 - 18 points - can - M.Rick75 45 - 18 points - mmx - LittleChoco 46 - 18 points - mnc - Klees 47 - 17.5 pnts - m!g - Red XIII 48 - 17 points - rta - aLaxLuthor 49 - 17 points - gms - hellifanboy 50 - 16.5 pnts - gpo - Navarone 51 - 16.5 pnts - mmx - Shades 52 - 16 points - rtc - Elgin_McQueen 53 - 15.5 pnts - mnc - HomiSite 54 - 15.5 pnts - pcx - wiede 55 - 15.5 pnts - lgs - Frosch 56 - 15 points - rta - jett 57 - 15 points - lgs - Darkcloud 58 - 14.5 pnts - ntl - Blooper987 59 - 14.5 pnts - rta - PsionBolt 60 - 14 points - pop - Sascha 61 - 13.5 pnts - mnc - elementalMaster 62 - 13.5 pnts - hcg - Snake 63 - 12.5 pnts - sh2 - godzella 64 - 12.5 pnts - gav - Rippi 65 - 12.5 pnts - 4py - Khorneblume 66 - 12.5 pnts - rta - Embrodak 67 - 12.5 pnts - ntl - Blooper987 68 - 12 points - pcx - Pascal Parvex 69 - 12 points - rtc - Antiriad2097 70 - 11.5 pnts - rpg - D4rkD 71 - 11.5 pnts - gsg - Drapondur 72 - 11.5 pnts - vgz - Walti 73 - 11.5 pnts - mnc - Mitschel 74 - 11 points - gav - Yoshi 75 - 11 points - ntl - Dogorilla 76 - 10.5 pnts - m!g - geohound 77 - 10.5 pnts - sh2 - FoxSpitzer 78 - 10.5 pnts - gpo - Klingsor- 79 - 10.5 pnts - 4py - Scorplian 80 - 09.5 pnts - pop - Daiyama 81 - 09 points - vgz - LOX-TT 82 - 08.5 pnts - gpo - GAMEPROFF 83 - 08 points - sh2 - BVBFabi09 84 - 06 points - eab - Mailman 85 - 05 points - ntl - BabyYoshi12 4py = 4Players Forum can = Canard PC eab = English Amiga Board gav = Gaming Village Forum gpo = Gamepro Discord gsg = Gamers Global gms = Gamestar Forum hcg = hardcore gaming 101 lgs = last game standing m!g = M!Games Forum mtc = Metacouncil Forum mmx = Multimediaxis Forum mnc = old maniac Forum ntl = NintendoLife Forum pcx = PCX Forum pop = PowerPlay Forum rta = ResetEra Forum rtc = Retro Canteen Forum rpg = RPG Maker MV Forum sh2 = Shock² Forum spz = Spazio PC vgz = Videogameszone Forum So who are our WINNERS?? Oh. It seems I had the themes right after all. For the fun of it, here is a little progress list I was keeping for myself in a text file:
Code:
01: GAME: (mario virtual boy?) THEME: mario 02: GAME: the Grinch THEME: christmas 03: GAME: Warcraft 3 THEME: orcs 04: GAME: mario RPG THEME: mario 05: GAME: lego LOTR THEME: orcs 06: GAME: ? THEME: ? 07: GAME: Theme Hospital THEME: Molineux 08: GAME: Mario Kart (version) THEME: mario 09: GAME: Gothic THEME: orcs 10: GAME: Fable THEME: Molineux 11: GAME: ? Congratulations on the local win Nobby! (again)
Mario Kart Home Circuit caught me out. Very sneaky Mr Horizon, although you did try to warn us! That was a good round. I think particularly enjoyable because I managed to get rid of a few that would have frustrated me quite late on. |

I'm probably better at creating them than solving them! Quote:
Well, there was an alternative to ActRaiser, but I don't like using covers too much. Would you have recognised this game? Don't kick yourself, Molyneux was mean - you couldn't go after image contents at all, meaning you had to know most of the games already to even have a chance at getting the theme. |

I have the game on Xbox. Picked it up for cheap from GameStation years ago. I don't think I ever played it.

December Quiz - King of the World Are you the mayor of your town? The chieftain of your tribe? The president of your country, or even the emperor of your galactic realm?! This time we look at the bigger picture - games where you control leaders and decision makers that steer entire countries as well as armies and civilians alike. This can mean political and armed conflict or peaceful building strategy. Sometimes it's all about the survival of your people in a harsh environment, or about political intrigue for more power. Do you like to be king of the world? Then take a look at this quiz and show us what you know. Deadline is Thursday the 31st December, participate via http://www.retrogamequiz.com/ Here is the last quiz of the year, enjoy! direct link: https://i.imgur.com/GHEFGEE.png Last edited by Mr_Horizon; 07 December 2020 at 14:59. |

#23! No clue which game it is (it must be as old as I am) but I have respect for games which manage to have such clear graphics with just monochrome colours.

Excited for this one, great excuse to look up some classic strat games. Also can't wait to see the end of year report.
So far I can see at least 2. I'm a slow starter, okay. |
