Risky Woods on the Amiga...
I've only played the Genesis/Mega Drive port of this game, but I did like it. What's the Amiga port like?
And what are some good Amiga-to-console ports? |

Risky Woods definitely seems like an Amiga original game to me. The entire scrolling routine is based on copperlist/sprite tricks to fake 2 x 16 colour dual playfield screens. If it was a port from another computer/console there would be no need to perform tricks like this. A huge amount of chip memory is "wasted" with an enormous copperlist to redraw the sprites horizontally over and over again to simulate more colours!

Yeah the game seems Pure Amiga to me too. Its just done TOO MUCH like an Amiga Game, and that basically means, its bloody impressive!!!.

Looks good and almost identical on both systems. Probably one of the few well coordinated cross platform games.
Megadrive isn't as shiny/warm but it plays better. Smoother scroll and bigger play field. I wonder if the atari version was any good, same palette as the megadrive? From disc: Quote:

Risky Woods is a nice game, but i prefer Blades of Vengeance. It's a very good fantasy platformer/beat'em up game for the genesis, much more fun when you play it in co-op.

Well, the graphics on the Amiga version certainly look better. I'd never heard of Blades of Vengence before; thanks for the link Retro Nerd!
EDIT: I just played "Gods" on a Genesis emulator; what a fun game! (SNES port isn't as good.) Man, I wish Rick Dangerous had gotten a home port! Last edited by dave4shmups; 23 February 2007 at 02:40. |
