Serial speed limit on A500
What is it exactly? My A500 has a 020 at 16Mhz and yet it only goes up to 33.
Is there any way to up this? |

That's strange, my A600 with an 060 can go beyond 115200
Try decreasing tehcolor depth to just two colors, and try again. You do realize that it might be your PC that is at fault, right? What program are you using? My A600 easily gets onto 115200 but my PC has trouble with this speed sometimes. |

If it's an original A500 not the + version then 33KB/s is about the limit on the port - faster CPU should allow chip switching to boost that up to 115KB/s, but it's not really worth it if you can use the parallel port instead, as that'll give about 400KB/s
'Course that's just for Amiga-Amiga data x-fer. If it's PC-Amiga then yea, you'll have to stick with serial and over 33KB/s can get unreliable - higher x-fer but more errors... |

With my standard A500 and Twin Express 57600 without any problem.

Yup, Twin Express is the best serial transfer solution IMO. It gives the best speeds on the PC side. It lets me put the PC up to 115200. It makes my meega happy.

Not tried Twin Express, but 8n1.device always did the trick for me...

Aha... colour depth...i didnt think of that. And yes its a A500+ running OS3.1 with 2MB Chip and 8MB Fast Ram. I was using Amiga Explorer to connect it to the PC.
Last time i tried TwinExpress with the PC, XP didnt seem to like it. Worth having another go tho, even if i prefer AE's nice GUI. I use Twin Express when connecting my Amigas, but i use Serial for that - i get a lot of packet header errors mind... so you can use a Parallel cable with TE then? And that Amiga=Amiga and Amiga=PC? Oh and Akira, you have an 060 in your A600??? How on earth? I tried putting in a A1200 030 card in mine and it never worked - im right in thinking that you cant use 1200 accelerators in 600s right? Oh and Syko - does the 8n1.device improve things? I downloaded this before you even mentioned this |

Ho ho ho , that was a typo! I meant to write a 68000 :P
To change the miggy's screen depthm, get yourself the proggy Add44k. Run it many times until your screen is in two colors. Now try Twin Express No, Twin works only with serial |

8n1.device is a serial replacemnt, it's on aminet, and as you might guess from the name, you can only use it with a data lenth of 8 bits, no parity and 1 stop bit. I've used it with a bog std A500 w/ 68000 @ 57Kb/s, no errors x-fering between WB1.3 and WinMe, 020/16 should be good for double that (just).
If you are x-fering via serial or parallel to PC, try not to use XP as the way it uses the ports has been changed from 98, Me, NT4 and 2K... so it's a bitch to get working... even running in compatability mode for win95 under XP ain't getting PC2Ami working on parallel - have to get the null-modem cable out and go back to slooow x-fers |

Did you hunt down the A2000 CPU slot signals and hook them up to a B2060? |

Whoah there
I corrected myself after that post, it was a typo! I wish I had an 060 in my A600 :/ MAybe if those guys build the Coldfusion accelerator for the A600, I will be able to have an 060 and more ;D |

The belly connectors are totally different.. Where did you plug it in? A stock A600 doesn't have any other suitable connector for an accel except the CPU itself.. All the A600 accels clip over the 68000 CPU (and are very flakey, because the contact isn't always 100% good) The only use I can think of for an A600 is a nice demo machine.. Install a few gigs of HD and take a packet of DD disks with you.. You can have the DMS files on the HD and extract them to disks for viewing. :-) |

The reason the chip clips acc'ls are flacky, is that it is very easy for them to move off centre slightly. If you use double-sided sticky pads too hold them in place, this stops being a problem. :smug

Maybe I've just gotten old, but I've started liking the fact that expansions plug where they're supposed to go, instead of clipping on top of / in between chips or hooking test clips to certain pins on the motherboard. :-) |

Yes, I would preffer as well something in the A600's expansion slot instead of a mobo oon top of the 68000
Let's wait for the coldfusion accelerator. I will sure make my vote for I seriously want one! (more than for my A1200, actually!) |

Don't have an A600, but I'm almost certain to mortgage my soul to get the A4000 board!

Heh, hope they make it and the product comes into existance. :-)
I always had a dream of someone designing a Fast slot card (A4000/3000) that had an x86 on it with a boot rom that contains an '040 emulator. Make the emu 100% and you have great speed and great compatibility. |

The Coldfire CPU runs most 680x0 code natively, Ollie is producing the board with a 68020 binary translator (from Motorola, so it should be decent ) for the few instructions that arn't handled natively. He's hoping to be able to stick translators for 020, 030, or 040 in flashROM - so you can change the emulated chip!
