Cover Disks

I have noticed a few Cover Disks from various magazines are missing. Are ADF'S of the missing Cover Disks wanted? If they are I'm guessing its all legal to upload these Disks? Or is that the reason some are missing.

Many Thanks

Jimbo

We're interested in adding adfs for any missing disks.

Most coverdisks that we've been able to source have been uploaded.

If there is no coverdisk download then it means either:
- we don't have a copy of the coverdisk
- the coverdisk is copy protected
- There is a naming problem with the Amiga Computing disks which hasn't been fixed yet so a lot of them are not yet displaying.

I don't think there is really any legal problem with coverdisks. The vast majority included game and app demos or PD. The grey area concerns disks that include full commercial versions - technically these are still copyright, although I doubt anyone is going to be too concerned about copying these disks now as that are all 15 years old on average.

Hi there

Thanks for the reply

I wont bother with the Amiga Computing ones then as there are naming problems with them. I do have some for the other magazines disks that are missing. Do I just stick them in the zone and post here? I have seen a few threads about an FTP to upload to but I have no idea what the details are.

Many Thanks

You can use the HOL ftp for uploading contributions to HOL or AMR. The access details are as follows:

Address: ftp.abime.net
User: hol
Password: incoming

Create a folder with your username and either post on the board or email us to let us know that you've uploaded something.

re. the Amiga Computings: the misnamed disks have now been corrected and uploaded.

Thanks for contacting us!

Hi, I noticed there are some unavailable Amiga Power cover disk scans. I have all but one of these disks (25, 26, 46, 47, 50, 51, but not 62) and can post scans of these if you would like.

@Codetapper

did the AMR team come up with a decision about the CD ISO's?

As long as they are uploaded directly to your site (I do not have the storage space nor bandwidth to transfer them) they can be linked online no problem...

I think it would be best if you organise those that have the images and that want to upload them - no use me being in that part of the loop!

As long as it is in the same directory as the other coverdisks the linking will work fine. Basically I just need the name of the ISO for each record and once that is in attached to the coverdisk record it will appear on the site.

@CT

okay, for testing, I have imaged / iso'd

Amiga Format - 42 - Cover CD @ 668MB

This is a little on the large size, so I used win rar, the size is now 278MB wich is a little easier to handle. Alas my scanner is broke so i cannot take pictures of the CD jewel case back-front and insert (if applicable)

I do have some questions / concerns though,

the last thing i want to dois place AMR or anyone in a situation of legality issues, so where does one stand in re-distibuting these CD's? i know most are only going to be PD based compilations, BUT there are a couple like the UFO disk from AF that also published the codes, this was licensed by AF for distribution.

I just dont want to get anyone in touble, and i really dont want Guildserver in trouble either as it houses a lot of Amiga community projects.

so any ideas CT?

It is surely not much different to uploading UFO to the zone!

indeed, i do see your point,

worse case scenario, if some entity has an issue it can be removed or de-linked untill resolved.

okay.. all thats left is to establish a naming format..

I have had some ideas... such that

AFCD#42_AUG#1999_CDIMAGE.iso
AFCD#42_AUG#1999_CI_FNT.jpg
AFCD#42_AUG#1999_CI_INS.jpg
AFCD#42_AUG#1999_CI_BAK.jpg

where CU_AMIGA would have a similar format of

mag cd name # issue number & month# issue year # file
CUACD # 33_APR # 1998 # blah... iso...

or would you prefer to have full names

AmigaFormatCD#133_Feb#2000#diskimage.iso

ideas ?!

AF42_AUG1999.ISO
AF42_AUG1999_FNT.jpg etc

is sufficient!

we'd probably prefer to keep the naming format consistent with the coverdisks (eg af001_1989_08_d001.adf for coverdisk no. 1) so we'd prob prefer something like

af107_1998_02_cd23.adf for afcd23

I'll have to discuss with codetapper...
