prb: blizzardPPC & Bvision

Right I have a Blizzard 603ePPC (160mhz I think) and a bvision gfx card.

Now there seems to be an intermittent problem with it, sometimes it works, sometimes it refuses...

The fact I don't have a working mobo/mouse port doesn't make it any easier identifying the problem..

Just for the record I have this 1d.4 motherboard with 3.1 roms

The amiga is housed in an eytech EZtower and uses a 270watt PC PSU..

Any ideas/suggestions to identifying the problem

Dunno.. sometimes when I power up the screen just stays black..

Other times it boots, resets, boots, resets and just sits on a black screen.

Then other times it works.. if I remove the BPPC it works perfectly.

@bippym

Has the BPPC got 040 and SCSI? If yes, the accelerator it self needs some extra juice for stable operation, as both the 040 CPU, the 160 MHz 603e and the SCSI draws quite a lot of power.

Maybe you have a "cold start problem" this is an error some Blizzard PPC cards have.

Do one or more resets when the screen is black and the Amiga doesn´t wants to start. If that helps it looks like the "cold start problem" .

You can also try a better PSU and do the Floppy Connector hack (bridged wire to the Floppy connector on the mainboard) to give the expansion port a better voltage

I have the floppy connector hack in use, and another wire goes into the PSU connector (A single wire going to the middle pin)..

I will get another 1200 mobo and see if that does anything..

Has anyone got the driver disk for the BPPC and BVision as I didn't get them with the amiga when I got it

I get a similar problem with me blizzard IV 030 card. Don't know if its because of the mediator board and having it switched off. Sometimes when I power the system on I get a black screen the cd rom drive comes on, the harddrive just has the red light come on it. Sometimes I have to switch it on and off a few times for it to power up. What I find works is turning it off and waiting about 30 seconds to turn it back on again.

What do you need the driver disks for? The libraries are outdated on the BPPC disk, and it's only CGX v3 on the BVision install disk.

If you have a CyberGraphX v4 CD, get the CyberGraphX update found on http://powerup.amigaworld.de. Here you will find the latest CPU libraries as well.

Why, when everything you need is on the page I linked to? (http://powerup.amigaworld.de)

-EDIT-

If you want the install disks for the hardware anyway, send me an email, and I'll send you some DMS and LHA archives. I think you can find it on http://amiga.resource.cx though.

Well, so u can look at the early startup screen I've posted the port pinout in the marketplace thread (Tested by myself with a circuit tester)

And also you can get one of the options off me if u'd prefer (see post for details)

That was also my question to the Amiga-news.de GREX experts when I got the Grex.
But these experts told me it is no problem with the flash you can also use a BVision with it.
Especially D.J.base owner of the Webpage http://grex.amigaworld.de/ should know it

Right got the mobo off BinoX and tried the mouse connector on my exisitng mobo.. SUCCESS

I now have an almost working PPC setup and a spare 1200 mobo

Right the amiga fails if I boot it with the PPC/Bvision connected..

I have removed the bvision and the ram and it still fails so my guess is the BVision has developed some sort of fault. No matter what I do I cannot get it to boot with it connected. All I get is a black screen. No early boot menu, no kick screen. No booting from the HD.. nothing.

Ideas?

Is it worth me connecting the Amiga brick to the PSU socket and the PC PSU to the floppy connector?

@bippym

do this:
1. remove the bvision
2. download the latest bppc firmware
3. follow the readme instructions of the firmware and flash the bppc
4. power off
5. power on
6. power off again (boring) and attach the bvision
7. power on and tell me if it worked...

I had the same prob with my DCE rev2 bppc. when I removed the grex and put on a bvision I got, the amiga did not boot anymore, just stayed there forever... I had flash to the latest fw before I installed the g-rex (1+ year ago...) but apparently I must re-flash everytime something changes... dunno why, but on my case it is mandatoryin order for the amiga to boot... after the reflash eveything works excellent and as it should... try it, u never know...!
