Best ever made joystick for Amiga is definitely Prof Competition 9000!!! I've had 2 of them since my A500 and they're still going strong. No sign of breaking down and perfect touch for any game. If it only had autofire-switch....but for those autofire games i have zipstick, poor man's prof competition equivalent

The Competition Pro Star Extra had autofire and slowmotion switches AND buttons. I have one of these (renamed the "Quattro" in the UK by Logic 3). The autofire button doesn't work anymore, which is a shame since it was so handy on games liek R-Type! (where you don't want constant autofire and reaching for the back of the joystick for the switch in the middle of a game is annoying)

Talking about autofire, SEGA had made a rapid fire unit to be used with master system. It's a small adapter that's connected between the joystick and the machine. There's a great chance it works with amigas if you can find one.

We had one way back when we first got the C64, a Wico Command Control or something like that...
It had interchangeable handles - bat, ball, & handgrip.
Don't know what happened to it

I know everyone prolly says zipstick, bug, comp pro *I'm sure I had around 2/3 of them and they died everytime - worn out switches... But I had a brilliant joystick by quickshot, it was in exactly the same style of a snes pad, four buttons on the right, which did all the same thing, autofire in the middle, and a nice metal joystick bobby on the left where the dpad would be, that is my fav joystick, but unfortunately its in germany with my a500+

I notice that there are some non-Amiga joysticks mentioned in this thread. What non-Amiga joysticks can be used (without modification) on an Amiga?

Sms pads and sticks work perfectly as 2 button sticks as well as mega drive pads but I forgot if you could use a second button with mega drive ones.

The Sega Megadrive uses multiplexing, 2 Buttons are on one line,

I build an adapter Box to connect my Competition Pro joysticks to my xbox,
heres my crappy webstite for it.

Does anybody knows how to build an Interface that converts the multiplext data to single lines?
I would like to integrate support for Megadrive and NES/SNES Pads without the need to solder new cables into the Pads.
Just doing this for fun and seeing that it works

Well I use zipsticks for most things! I find that they are the best for quick responses and the microswitches are fab. Only problem is the lack of 2 buttons

I have 3 sega arcade sticks as well which are great but I think they need a bit of a clean because sometimes they don't fully return to the centre.

I also have an asciiware megastick which is pretty good.

You can also rely on a megadrive pad too, I must have about 20 ordinary md pads (nearly all official) and 2 six button ones, I had to cut some membranes out of a standard md pad to get the second 6 button pad to work though.

I hated the bug it was horrible imo

Is there a way to make a zipstick into a 2 button stick? Can't be that hard surely?

The Zipstick is the best joystick I have ever used. Reliable, fits well in the hand and very very responsive. Those Cruisers however are a poor man's Zipstick.

Should be just a matter of wiring the 2nd button to the correct pin.
(Look at www.hardwarebook.net if you need the pinout.)
Might need a new cable - most joysticks don't have the full 9 wires, just what they need.

I liked it sooooo much. Perfect for playing Sensi.

In fact ... I liked it so much that 4 years ago I tried to locate some new ones. After phoning around all over the world I found an Amiga Dealer in Germany with some ... I bought the LOT (~16)

Glad I did, now like golddust !!

Now just need to fabricate an adaptor to use with my DEll X300 Laptop ... and PPjoy. That would be soooooo sweet.

Anybody here made one of those adapters ???

Two years ago, on my visit to a last of the remaining repair shops here, I saw racks full of maverick joysticks, modified so that they could be connected to both PC and Amiga. I couldn't count them but there were well more than 50!

Yay! I have a couple of those. Couldn't break them if I wanted to. Incredibly robust, there's really nothing like it. They really last forever.
