Green discolouration/flicker on A500
Hello all, new person here. Hoping someone can help me out in figuring out, and fixing, a problem I have with my A500.
When connected to my new LG LCD tv, the screen has terrible greenish flicker in it. This is an old problem, a one I was hoping to fix by building a new RGB-Scart cable. (Stedy's RGB to scart). However, the flicker did not disappear. After further checks, when the picture is put through the A520 rf-switch, the composite picture also has the same flicker. Furthermore, even the mono-picture output puts out a picture with similar flicker, only nt in color. So, am I correct to assume the problem might be something inside the Amiga, perhaps cracked solders or bad caps? Or is this just another case of new tv's not understanding old signals... Here's a pic: And a short video. [ Show youtube player ] |

More than likely capacitors, someone else had similar issues here recently. either that or power supply issues.

This may not be it, but I had a similar problem when hooking into my tv. There was a setting for the tv that would change the colorspace that it was using. It is worth a shot before aplying a solder iron to a motherboard.

Maybe either of these reasons:
- Dying video encoder (the flat weird looking chip below the video port) - Broken chip RAM (bad memory) - Cracked solder joints, especially on custom chip sockets (try to reseat the chips) *edit*: Or dying Denise chip? Last edited by 8bitbubsy; 13 June 2011 at 11:18. |

Hum, peculiarly, if I pick the unit up, and press on the left side of the bottom, where that extension port is, the picture chances, all sorts of anomalies, even half of the screen going black. Sounds more and more like a physical issue. I do wonder, what would cause only the right side of the picture to disappear, not the left...
Will investigate further, thank you all. |

Bad solder joints or bad contact for sure. Try reaseating the custom chips as said, and check for dried/cracked solder joints on the bottom of the motherboard.

Indeed, after opening the case, and pressing down the chips, most of which actually moved a bit, everything works. Thanks!
Now, to build an adapter for Megadrive pad... Padjumping just isn't my thing... |
