Supercars 3 demo available

Hi,

After a long time without any news from this remake, I wanted to put a demo of it online so I maybe I get feedback and (positive) support.

So here it is with all its flaws (this is really a demo, don't expect too much of it in terms of playability):

http://perso.wanadoo.fr/jotd/Supercars3Demo.zip

You'll need java & Windows/Linux to run it (but any Amiga with java 1.5 could run it too )

Enjoy

Yes, VERY NICE. The controls are much smoother as in SC 1 & SC 2. This would be very easy to navigate with a stick/pad.The key control is awesome so far. And i like the car sprites, very professional. Good work, jotd.

Bien sympa

It looks pretty good. The design of the new car is interesting.

I hope you'll find some people to help you in the design of new circuit and to improve the whole game to make a true Super Cars 3. The idea of mixing Super Cars 1 & 2 is nice and finding pixel graphist artist is a bit hard nowadays ?

As there's some people from the Amiga Demo scene that come sometimes on EAB i hope they could give the link and so find the support you need.

Anyway good luck, may the schwartz be with you !

That was nice. I find the controls a bit too smooth though, it doesn't really feel like the car's touching the ground. Also the engine sound needs more oomph, but I bet that's going to be fixed. Would be nice with more gears too (automatic, but you hear the driver changing gears).

Anyway, not sure if you're planning on changing it, but I think the controls makes the track a bit too easy to navigate through, and not giving any sense of accomplishment when you round a perfect corner. And I hope sliding and drifting will be in too, like in the originals.

Thanks everyone for your support. Yes, the game lacks playability, skidding should be improved, car control is a bit simple, etc. I've started weaponry system (BTW you can already test it by starting the game with SHIFT+RETURN cheatmode:

- F front missile
- S super missile
- H homing: avoid: crashes the program, I'm currently fixing it
- R rear missile
- N nitro jump
- M mine
- K kill your car
- RETURN: skips 1 lap

weaponry is illimited right now, works anytime.

FYI Car sprites have been rendered with 3D studio max using existing Audi TT / Mercedes / BMW car models that I ripped off (I'm a top notch ripper, because I suck too much in gfx design).

Hi,

Version 0.2 of Supercars 3 demo:

http://perso.orange.fr/jotd/supercar...rs3Demo_02.zip

- weapons are now available, though homing missile could be better
- computer cars are now moving, but this is rather buggy, so they cannot win a race ATM
- added more options
- localization (not perfect yet)
- added intro jingle & magnetic fields zoom for a very faithful intro
- added bug/improvements database
- removed BMW car (was not working anyway)

Yes AI sucks and lap management too. I'll try to remove computer cars completely and add weapons for the next version of the demo, so the game will be a at least playable in 2 player mode.

Yeah, that would be a nice test. I'm looking forward to it.

You need Java 1.5 (also called 5.0) to run it. Else you get this "cannot find main class, program will exit" message.

Super cars 1 & 2 - absolute classics this game... probably cos it was one of the few games where I could beat my mates! heh heh.

I know SS3 has a long way to go but it is already looking very impressive. As others, will give feedback / comments, etc..

Keep up the excellent work!

btw.... Supercars3Demo\circuits\3_hard\2.... that track looks evil!

Thanks for your support. Next demo version due end of the month. Will be more playable, and will have more circuits and less bugs

Hi folks,

A new demo version has been uploaded. Many improvements. Check by yourself
(still not very playable due to computer car moves but fun in store if you can find the cheatmode)

Looking better and better... keep it advancing!

Few annoyances though

- computer cars dont act as they do in sc2 - they seem to warp infront completely once they die etc...
- when you collide with another car, you just get bashed back... effect is too harsh
- when you / computer respawns - they usually kill other cars that they spawn over
- missiles start too slow (go behind the car too much)
- beatle car gets stuck on the corners at times - too long of a car

.. still - keep it coming! :-D
ps- you're not going to use my car sprite I sent ya?

I still miss powersliding, and the VW New Beetle is way to large compared to the other cars. But it's getting better, although it'll be sad that I won't be able to play this on my miggy.

Oh, and are you not going to add communication screens at all? Cause that's one of my favourite aspects of SC2 (aside from the actual racing, that is).
