Traders (Linel) (M.U.L.E. clone)

Any Traders players out there? I recently loaded up an emulator just to play this game again. It's funny the games that you keep going back to.

The game is a little silly with it's resources (perfume, water, flowers, snails?) but the supply/demand mechanic is just perfect! I managed to get four Xbox controllers mapped so that we could sit on the couch.

I was surprised to watch people, who weren't even born when this game was released, become totally immersed in the gameplay! Further evidence that great game design transcends time.

Although I have played M.U.L.E. a lot, I wasn't aware of this game. Do you like it better than M.U.L.E.?

I played it a lot when I was younger. It's quite amazing how even with the computer opponents it's still a very fun game, but it's even better with friends. Didn't know it was based on M.U.L.E. at that time.

I was sad when Deluxe M.U.L.E. was given up back then. It looked really nice. Never played Traders intensively, but Subtrade quite a bit.

Interesting. I wasn't aware of Subtrade either. Probably at this point, I was more focused on action games than board game-like M.U.L.E. type.

Lemon Amiga rates Traders 1.21 point higher than Subtrade.

I've not played Traders (yet), but I've played a lot of Subtrade, and it's the best MULE clone I've played on any system since the C64 MULE. And that includes the MULE boardgame.

I suppose I'd better get around to firing up Traders someday.

Great point. Playing it with friends really brings that game to life. I never played M.U.L.E. What is the best way to play M.U.L.E. today?

My son was shocked that nobody has made any clone/rework of M.U.L.E/Traders/subtrader. He scoured Steam, wikis and major consoles.

Probably the NES version of M.U.L.E. is best looking out of all the 8-bit platforms. Not sure if it has all the same features as the original C64 game, but I think it does.

Thanks for the suggestion! I had a 4-player match with friends over this weekend and it's great to see the genre is still supported. Everyone enjoyed it and we'll be playing it again. I haven't played the original M.U.L.E. but this seems a very good rework based on the other things I've seen. The Amiga Traders version still has a few benefits.

Speaking of which, if anyone plays Traders and runs into an issue with game freezes, crashes, or unresponsive, during the phase when you send rocket ships, I've been wrestling with that for decades. I've found you can run a save-state and the load it to the previous round. It's a pain but at least the game can be completed.
