james pond 2 cd32 in winuae 5.1 ?

I just tested james pond 2 CD32 in winuae 5.1 and the game is really slow, the music on the menu is crashed and the game itself is very slow

this not happens in winuae 5.0 and previous versions

***** please note I have a cd cue image with mp3 files , anyways this cd image works perfect on winuae previous versions

so can any1 check this game in winae 5.1 64 bits please to see if works fine there

thanks

Don't have mp3 variant but wav does work fine here. It also shouldn't make no difference anyway because mp3 is converted to wav internally in background thread and nothing has changed in CD playback part.

More likely something to do with config. Config and winuaelog.txt from both 5.0 and 5.1 should help. (Tick Paths panel full logging checkbox before starting emulation, start, wait until the intro starts, wait 30 seconds or so, F12, paths panel, save the log)

ok here are the bootlogs

this is really strange, the config is the standard full screen cd32 for both 5.0 and 5.1, but in 5.1 there is evident slowdown, it does not happen on all the other cd32 games I have, only on james pond 2 ?

That intro part is not very chipset heavy (no copper tricks etc) which is usually the biggest reason for requiring (too) much CPU power.

Does same happen in windowed mode?

Check also if same happens without cycle-exact mode. (or QS mode with compatibility slider 2 steps to right)

EDIT: If possible, check which 5.1 beta introduced it (it is always possible it is some stupid change). 5.1 beta thread in this forum still has valid links.

ok I tested some 5.1 betas and this issue started with beta 1 so all of them have the same problem
if u want I can upload james pond cd32 to the zone for test
the zip file is 40mb and contain 7 mp3 files as cd tracks and boot direct from the zip file

btw, this issue is really strange because I tested some other cd32 games also with mp3 tracks and all of them works fine in 5.1

The evidence strongly suggests it's a problem specific to you, as all the other folk including myself have tested it as fine. Just saying how it looks, there's no blame being attached. Are sure it's the standard config for the CD32 and you have not tweaked anything?

If you want to put it in The Zone then I'll happily try it BUT Toni has already said that the mp3 part won't be the problem. Also, I'd suggest using things from the Redump project as opposed to custom made MP3 versions. It only needs an encoding mistake or an edited track to spoil the enjoyment, and you don't save much space between MP3 and WAV, well not enough to make it really needed.

Yes, upload it somewhere, thanks. It needs to be checked. Perhaps it has some weird CUE file or something.

Does same game with WAVs work? It probably does but better check both.

I dont see difference in CPU usage between the wav and mp3 CD images, but WinUAE 5.1.0 does use lot more CPU than 5.0.0 in this game.

Highest single core CPU spike in WinUAE 5.1.0 is 69%, in 5.0.0 it's 42%.
This is with i9-9900KS.

That could explain it (disk version probably have same problem in that case). 5.0 should not be (at least not that much) slower than earlier versions.

Probably something to do with copper activity, game has copper activity every game area scan line. (I originally thought the problem was the intro but it does not even have any CD audio)

Tried the mp3 version, no slowdown at all, my problem is that if I use BR Vsync etc it's WAY too fast. Tried Full screen, window, full window, always too fast with any Vsync on..My PC is a GMKTec k1 6800u, it's a multi core Ryzen with Radeon. If I use no vync it plays at the normal spped..

No, WinUAE's CPU indicator mostly stays at 0% with the floppy version on quickstart A1200 config.
