checksum error on HD file in IDE mode

Created a A600 IDE configuration with a small HD to test CD32load

Formatted a HDF as FFS (default), boots but displays "volume xxx has a disk read error"...

works fine with uaehf device, but with IDE no dice. A600/A1200 IDE is enabled in chipset (started from A600 basic config and enhanced it with more RAM and a hard drive)

same thing when I want to mount the HDF to add things from my "big" config.

What kind of small drive is it ?
Are there also errors on kick3.x ?

4MB HDF. using kick 3.1 on A600. OS 3.9 same thing. changing uaehf to real ide causes the problem.

Did you use HDToolbox to recognize the disk and create a partition ?
This is the correct order of HDD initialization on a real Amiga.

I used winuae to create a hard disk file then formatted the disk using FFS in workbench.

Maybe you're right and it's not enough? Are you sure?

I think this only works if you use the IDE setting right from the start. If you use uaehf first to create and format the drive, changing the interface later will mess things up. I had this issue in the past as well and only ever use uaehf since then.

This has nothing to do with UAE.

You must partition it in Amiga side and use RDB mode. KS ROM or 3rd party HD controllers don't (and can't without guessing needed geometry, filesystem and so on) handle single partition/"super floppy" hardfiles.

There is hack in UAE side that embeds virtual RDB but it can't work in all situations. This most likely explains why it looks like it tries to boot.

Erm, apparently you forgot, but WinUAE fakes an RDB if you connect a non-RDB HDF to a real hardware controller. I stumbled accross this many times when I forgot to enable RDB mode for a newly created HDF.

used HDtoolbox to prepare the disk, formatted it, copied the files on it and now the drive doesn't boot / locks my big system when added...

I mentioned this in previous post. ("There is hack in UAE side ..")

"It does not work"? Can be normal. Bad/incompatible filesystem for example can cause this.

Does FFS need to be installed on the disk on 3.1 ? I don't think so but...

I partitioned a ton of real HD drives on the real machine back in the days including when everyone was losing their data on big > 4GB drives when nsdpatch was just out. I'm a bit rusty but in the end I'm going to make that work.

No but this is still not enough information. Upload the (compressed) HDF + config (setting up "real" configuration can get easily wrong) if you want help.
