All pages?

Hey guys,

I have been checking the AMR files for a certain data I couldn't find, namely, Silica System ads.

Have they and any other shop ads been taken out of the scans? And if so , why ? I have big memories of them and also consider them an important thing that needs to be archived.

Hi Akira,

Ads like these are normally removed from magazine archives, which contain just the editorial content, is that not so?

It seems like that, and I happen to think it's a mistake... they need to be preserved too.. I'd like magazines to be exactly as they were printed, ads and all...

It would be like removing the sponsorship of Chupa Chups out of Zool and "preserve" it that way...

I live less than 2 miles from the Silica Systems shop in Sidcup, and I have many old Amiga magazines featuring their ads.

Would you like me to upload some for reasons of nostalgia?

I am mostly discussing issues regarding preservation, rather than my possible "nostalgia" factor. I actually needed one special advert for checking on some data.

I still have some of thsoe ads in my COMMODORE INTERNATIONAL magazines and the few Amiga mags I have not sold last year

Post details of the data you wish to confirm, then not only I but other members too can see if we can help. Quite a few of us have a collection of old magazines as well.

If you want to scan said adverts I am sure AMR would publish them for you. They are not going to go out of their way to do it themselves though me thinks. (And given the sheer volume I think they are right).

Well unfortunately I SOLD all my Amiga mags as I said, so, I cannot scan shit.
But I think this should be considered... after all if you are scanning a mag, a few extra pages is no effort.

Prowler, true, thanks a lot, but I am not looking fopr the Silica ads anymore. That situation only brought up to me the fact that AMR is not preserving the magazines in their entirety.

Ads should be scanned too should they not for a complete preservation? Often obscure pieces of hardware prices can be found, and maybe clues to release dates of some things.

Of course it is extra effort, but aren't magazines usually scanned completely all at once? (with only a few pages put up). Or am I incorrect and only those actually scanned are on the website? Otherwise some ppl may not keep their magazines thinking everything has been scanned and those extra parts could be lost forever.

I was actually thinking of buying one of those $500 specialist book scanners so I could scan a few things, because as it is the scanner I have is shocking to use for books.

I have a BYTE magazine special issue from 1985 entitled "Inside the IBM PCs", and the advertisements in this are *very* interesting after all this time.

Someone please change the title to something that would grab more the attention of the team members.
I think many of us agree that full preservation should be considered.
I mentioned Silica Systems ads because they are pretty special in design and many times showed stuff for sale that never appeared.

As we've explained on many occasions we have had to prioritise our scanning - we simply don't have the time to devote endless hours. ..

On a similar note regarding omitted pages, I've only just noticed that a good deal of the AP scans omit the whole Bottom Line section (towards the end of each mag) - which happens to be one of my favourite sections of the mag mainly due to the extra comedic writedowns prescribed to bad games following their reviews.

Only the scans of APs 1-19, 58, and 63-65 include these pages. Not exactly ads are they?
