CD32 to Phillips Amiga Monitor

I have a Phillips monitor which I use with my A1200. I also have a CD32 and whenever I connect it using the RCA input (yellow socket at rear of monitor) it only displays in monochrome.

Is there any way of connecting the CD32 output to the 9-pin VGA connector on the monitor. Basically is there an adaptor which you can plug into the RCA out or SVGA on the CD32 to the 9-pin monitor VGA input?

is it the old CM8833 or the "newer one" CM 8833/II?

I have both at home and a CD32 also (connected to my 100cm TV Screen ) and can check this once I return home from vacation first week of July (and after the Cup final of course).

regards,
Olli K.

You can easily mod your CD32 for RGB output so you can connect it to that VGA-style plug and have the best possible picture!

You need this pinout:
http://www.gamesx.com/hwb/co_CD32Expansion.html

You can take all the signals you need straight from the expansion port... or buy an SX-1 or SX-32

Does anyone know where to get connectors to fit the CD32 expansion port?
(Same as IBM-compat MCA slot, I think I read somewhere )
I'd love to try some of these mods, but don't want to solder directly on the CD32 board!

Oli - I have the Phillips CM 8833/II monitor but as I said it just displays in B/W if using the RCA input. ANy help would be appreciated - and I assume you mean Euro cup final

Akira - thanks for the link but unfortunately I wouldn't know how to interpret the info.

Then give it to someone who does. I don't do any hardware hacks or mods to my stuff, I've got a friend who is a whizz in electronics and he does it all for me.

I have one of those old A500 monitors that does the same thing. However, there is a switch on the front (next to the volume nob) that puts it in color. Switch it over once more put it to the RGB connector. Maybe yours has a similar switch?

My 1084 had a CVBS button on the back, and an LCA button too. Worth to check if they are doing this.

Also if your monitor has a Luma/Chroma input (two RCA plugs, one red one yellow) try connecting it to the other plug, standard is yellow for composite, but who knows...

Doh do I feel stupid. There is a saturation knob inside the front panel and it was turned all the way to the left. I turned it to the right and along came the colour. Well I did buy it off ebay with no instructions

This knob does not affect the colour if using the vga port with my 1200 though.

Well thanks again guys I am going to bury my head in the sand for a bit

yes, saturation does not affect an RGB connection. Perfectly normal.

I know exactly how you feel! When I tried using RCA on my a500 monitor, I thought black and white was all I could get just because the thing worked.
