Very late starter. We didn't have a lot of money. Was offered an A1000 for cheap in 1994 followed quickly by A500+1084 monitor. I wish I still had that A1000. It was expanded with 512K of FastRAM via a Spirit Inboard 1000. I still have the A500 and 1084 though. In 1997 I got an A1200 and used it as my primary internet computer (with a 40MHz 68030 card) until about 2000 when I moved to a PII system for internet.
I still have and love my A1200/030, and I just purchased a Wicher 500i for my A500. In the 90s I expanded the A500 to 2MB chip so I could fit more samples in RAM for OctaMED. |

A500 Screen Gems pack in 1990, me my dad and my brother went in to the shop looking to buy an Atari ST for £299, then saw an Amiga 500 for £399. My dad still got it for us I still remember the whole family being astonished by how good the intro was for Shadow of the Beast

I think it was in 1995
It was a second hand machine, an Amiga 500 If i well remember Commodore already stopped to sell the machines (but i could be wrong) My "new" computer had some disks logically, but ONLY games That's interesting Indeed i discovered demoscene only with emulation in 2002 I know, also cracktros are demoscene, but i didn't know that |

Chrismas 90, was meant to be a screen gems pack, but Diamond had run out, So it was a plain 500, 1/2 mb upgrade, powerplay cruiser and loads of games, Silkworm, Hard drivin' Golden axe, North and South and a few others, maybe 10-12 games with it. A a few months later I got a cracked copy of lotus 1, needed 1mb ram. Turned out my 1/2 mb upgrade didnt work.. Went back, and they gave me a new 500.. same ram upgrade.. same problem.. So went to a computer Fair in leeds at the uni and my dad bought me a new 1/2 mb upgrade.. Other than adding an external floppy, and a squick mouse it stayed like that till I sold it to buy a pc.

Christmas 1992 for me. Brand new A600 - no games with it just a magazine and a "copy of" golden axe.
I only just found this date out by looking for the Amiga Action (Issue 40). Mashed those Demo disks on Christmas day. Happy days. Last edited by sneckburger; 10 July 2019 at 16:44. |

Friend of mine had just started a job programming databases, and within weeks he went from enthusiastic computer owner to selling his pride and joy "I can't bear to even look at a computer when I get home" so I became the proud owner of a KS 1.2 Amiga with all his developer software.

1990/91 ish , had a A500+ for a while which i bought new, had that a good while then swapped it out for a megadrive then Snes for a year or 2 ,then briefly had a A600, wasnt keen on that so traded the 600 in for a A1200 with 40mb HD , loved that machine, foolishly traded it in for a 486 around the end of 1996.
fast forward to end of 2018 and bought myself a Cd32 ,tf330 and cf card, and im back in Amiga heaven, but i wont be making the mistake of selling/trading it this time. Last edited by xubidoo; 24 July 2019 at 22:53. |

Xmas 1988 A500 512K & 1.3.. happy times.. First saved money to buy a CM8833 as using our living room TV wasn't really an option in a long run. Sold it probably around -90 to pay phone bills (kept the HST, though ) Later same year got A2000 rev4.x whatever with a MFM HDD.. sold that crap and got A2000C rev6.x with 1M Chip (later expanded to 030/33, 2M Chip, 8M Fast, SCSI + IDE, Super Denise, 3.1). Sold A2000C (regrets!!) in -94 and got myself A3000D, which I still have (specs are in other thread). In 201x got myself several A600s and finally one of them works stable after recapping.. it has plain 68K, 2M Chip, 9.5M Fast, CF HDD, PCMCIA+CF, Indivision ECSv2, 1.3+3.1, working floppy+GoTek and build in PSU using PicoPSU. I'm using this A600 in regular basis as my main Amiga dev machine

I got mine in 1989. I had an Atari 800XL at the time. I was stationed in Korea, and a friend had an Amiga, and I had to get one of my own. Went down to the Base Exchange and bought an Amiga 500.

I sold my C128D at christmas time 1989, and took the money we received as a christmas gift (which was usual back then), and all in all it was just enough to by me my Amiga 1000. Bought it before midday, and around 1PM I had to attend school, so even took it to the school with me, as I hadn't have time to bring it home. It still had a Kick 1.1 disk when I purchased it.
I was totally blown away. When I started plaing around in assembler, I was so used to the 3 limited registers you had on C64, that I slowly had to learn the "unlimited" freedom of 7+7 registers. I was used to writing directly to the screen when displaying messages, so it was quite a difference, that I can't just write something on screen, but have to get a handle and such. |
