On a 68000 based Amiga you can make your own with a 3-pole switch and a 27C400 EPROM containing two kickstart images. very neat. No PCB's just the chip and one wire to the switch.

Be careful if you have a 2k. My 2k won't play nicely with KS 2.x because of the SCSI card. The firmware on it is 1.x only. Try softkicking first. I can't remember if my card is the Commodore one but it's likely.

You need a 27C800 for 2 kickroms.

TUXBAR81 is selling kickstart switchers for the A2000 over at Amibay

Surely given that WHDLoad is designed to get old games (which require KS1.x) running on newer machines (which are usually running 3.x) then there really isn't much of a problem if he upgrades to a newer KS version? WHDLoad will take care of the compatibility issues, no?

So long as all his gaming is via WHDLoad... Mind you, he could restrict his WHDLoad usage solely to those games that require KS1.x, and still be fine

I thought WHDLoad was designed to enable floppy only games to be run from HD. The minmum spec is KS2.0 and 2mb Chip, isn't it?

It does, and in doing so has to patch games to run on newer hardware which includes the necessary changes to run on KS3.x et al as far as I recall.

I remember when floppy games first started to become HD Installable. They mostly used JOTD and I remember Cannon Fodder requiring 1mb Chip and 0.5mb Fast. I had an A1200 at the time and I had to use a program called FakeFast to fool the patch into thinking that I had the correct memory config.
