Shadow of the Beast original built in cheat

i'm trying without luck to activate the infinite health cheat on Shadow of the Beast 1, ipf versions (both 1357 and 1414)

iirc the original game had a cheat built in, and you needed to keep pressed both left mouse and fire from the last picture intro, until the insert disk2 request

now, i have reached to make it work with a couple of cracked but untrained releases, but no luck with the originals

i have also tried to keep pressed during the entire intro, and also adding the right mouse button as a third button keeped pressed, but no

I never heard about any cheats regarding Beast 1. I always tried to do my best during play, but know the cheat Ten pints in Beast 2.

yeah, exactly those two, they work used with cracked (and untrained of course) releases, and don't work using ipf instead
at least here

i think to remember the cheat code was largely spreaded back in the day, also in vg magazines, as contained in the original?

Hmm, sounds a bit like the cheat was in a review copy that got leaked and then cracked and was removed in the release version?

The cheat entry for SotB has been updated not too long ago. Quite likely that the cheat has been removed.

i have checked, and yes demoniac is right
easy test, cause the Quartex crack doesn't have the intro
and both the Visual Factory and The Band cracks have their own trainer, also in the initial release;
all the rest are prolly hacks of the same PNA crack

but now i'm wondering which game was played to make the reviews back in the day then

Could you post the pages of the magazines that you found the cheat on? Direct links to AMR pages don't work

As I suspected those are cheats were send in by readers of the magazine (on Game Machine you can see the name). I'll add a note to HOL about the cheat. Thank you for investigating it and to demoniac to point to the Paranoimia crack

There are actually 2 PNA versions. I believe the trainer was added to the 2nd release, but it wasn't a patch. One would have to download the entire first disk! I assume Disk 2 was the same, but I never compared the set back then.

I'd say we simplify this at least for the sake of the HOL entry Interesting that one version of the crack seems to have been spread a lot more than the other one or any other crack of the game.

the even more bizarre thing is that the cheat works also with the first version, probably they forgot to add the info in the crack text;
in the second version [t+1 PNA], those info to how activate the cheat,
scrolls into the pirate text (a spartan cracktro )

This is what I thought after I downloaded the trained version that I wasted my time and ratio as I had a previous copied version. However, the first version didn't work with the cheat after asking for my ratio back from the sysop. Both crack intros were identical.

I think you are referring to the 2 TOSEC versions and specifically the one with the Rattlehead bootblock text. I think the Rattlehead bootblock was tacked on later. In other words, TOSEC doesn't have the first version that I'm referring to.

here i have compared this one :
Shadow of the Beast (1989)(Psygnosis)(Disk 1 of 2)[cr PNA]
that has the standard pna cracktro

and
Shadow of the Beast (1989)(Psygnosis)(Disk 1 of 2)[cr PNA][t +1 PNA]
where the cheat info scrolls in a sort of rootblock, before the same pna cracktro

and the cheat works in both, despite not mentioned in the first
but yeah, i think more versions have been spreaded when the game was released
