Directory Opus 4 long filenames?

I was shocked today to realize that Directory Opus 4 does not support any filenames longer than 30 chars! There is a setting, but it cannot be set higher than 30. It always resets to 30 chars.

Opus 5 fixes this, but Opus 5 is not included in Classic WB.

I have DirOpus4 (probably younger than Your Opus4), and I have long filenames :-D

Look for newer version.

Amiga OS (3.5/3.9) supports up to 107 characters + Null with Stephan Rupprecht's WBCtrl MNL=102 107 (above LoadWB).

DOpus 4.17pre21 has no real limitation for lister windows / filename length.

it's the file system which limits it, pfs3/sfs can use 107 characters and dopus4 handles filenames of that length without any problem

Nice thread. Always thought this was a given limitation. Even with just pfs3aio I have limited file name length. So that will be fixed with Stephan Rupprecht's WBCtrl MNL=107, if I understand correctly?

There is a tool which comes with the full pfs3 dist called setfnsize you need to use. Open a shell and enter setfnsize dh0: 107 (change the partition names for what yours are obviously), you need to do it for every partition you want long file names on.

Aha, OK thanks! So I guess this will keep the partition in tact.
But... how do I enable longer filenames on windows drives in WinUAE (folders mounted as HDD)?

Think it should be set to 102 - allowing 5 for a .info?

I use wbnamelength myself. It's larger and has less features , but "wbnamelength 102" is easier to understand and remember.

102 characters for icons is correct, but you're thinking into the wrong directions. The 5 characters for ".info" are counting, too. So you still need 102+5=107 charactrers for MNL=MaxNameLength to allow icons with 102 characters.

Sorry James, I'm embarrassed, you're right with the 102 characters. Next time I should better read my own code before I make any stupid statements.

Awesome thanks. Is there a release version of Dopus 4 that supports long filenames? Or do I have to install a beta version?

I can't remember anymore if there was a limit for the filename length in the older final release versions like DOpus416JRbin.lha, since I'm using 4.17pre21 since 2003 without any big problems. You can get a list of all available older versions when you click on "More" under the last beta versions or on "Download" for the latest public packs.

There is no limitation with WinUAE using Windows directories.

Update:
If you look into the DOpus4 history it says that long filename support (107 chars) was introduced in v4.13 and the last fixes were done in v4.16.

There is a problem in last few 4.17 betas, if you have DATE or/and CLOCK options on,
dopus will produce enforcer hits every second. (if you run dopus without loading complete WB setup, eg. in emergency boot situations)
