2mb chip plus other upgrades on my A500 Rev 6A?
I already have an ACA500 (with 2 x 4GB CF cards)+ACA1232 030/40Mhz/128mb, 512kb trapdoor so can get 1mb chip using the ACA500 and an Indivision ECS, but how else can I upgrade?
I'm looking to get 2mb chip firstly (Have an 8372A Fat Agnus so only 1mb chip), but not sure the best way to do that. Do I use the 512kb trapdoor ram and do the JP2/JP7A hack to get 1mb chip (although I've read you don't need to cut JP7A if your trapdoor RAM has a disable switch like mine has?) and find a MegaChip or other 2mb board, or is there another way to get 2mb chip? Jens has posted that doing the 1mb chip hack won't affect the ACA500 or using a MegaChip so I can disable the 1mb chip option on the ACA500 and not have any problem with a 2mb chip upgrade. So, any advice on the best approach with 2mb chip please!! I only have an OCS Denise (8362 R8) as well, so can I simply swap it for a SuperDenise if I can get one and would that mean I can have more WB colours or just more screen modes to pipe to my 22" LCD via the Indi ECS? I'm confident enough to do the trace cutting and soldering a pad so no problem there, it's if it starts getting to unsoldering and replacing chips I'll probably struggle, even with chipquick |

Just screen modes. But with an Indi ECS you probably already have them. |

Haven't enough room for another A500 and don't really want a 'spare' hanging around I'm not going to use, it's why I want to upgrade the 6A. If there really is no other option I'll have to consider it as it probably is the easier option, do I just add any 1mb trapdoor option to an A500+ and get 2mb chip?

You'll pay £100 for a PAL MegaChip or £20-£30 for an A500 plus (amiga cartoon classics on ebay). If you're lucky it will come with the A501+ trap door RAM card |

Right, so an A500 Plus then! Thought the A501+ was only 512kb according to BBoAH or was there 1mb version?

Bboah is wrong unfortunately. It's wrong quite a lot. Use Amiga hardware database.

I might be able to help in that I've got an A500+ with 1mb trapdoor card that I want to sell. In Cartoon Classics box. It's very nice cosmetically and has no battery damage. It works well normally, but has an intermittent fault where occasionally it wont start from a hard reset when warm. Probably capacitor related. The fault would be reflected in the price. Can do photos if you want. PM me if interested.
No worries if not, I've been meaning to put in on amibay for a while. |
