How to power a KVM switch with A600
My A600 shares monitor and speakers with two other computers. I had a KVM switch that allows me to share VGA, speakers and PS/2 keyboard and mouse between the different machines. The A600 is connected only with the VGA and speaker port, since I use the amiga keyboard and mouse. The other two PCs share keyboard and mouse.
Everything works fine, but for a little issue. The KVM switch gets power from the PS/2 ports, and thus I have to keep at least one of the other two machines on when using it with the A600. Otherwise, there is no power and the switch does not work. The PS/2 connector provides a 5V 250 mA line on one of the pins. So I am wondering if it is possible to pull off a similar 5V line from the A600 to power the KVM. Does the floppy connector or the parallel port provides such a line? |

It states it provides 270mA 5V on pin 12. That is for all external units though. |

Chances are the PVM doesn't need as much as 250mA - it's probably closer to 50mA, depending on the keyboard and mouse attached. But that sort of power is indeed available from the floppy port, RGB port and both controller ports.

250 mA is the maximum current stated in the PS/2 specs, but I agree that the KVM would probably need much less current. I would try first with the RGB port: pin 23 is supposed to provide 5V 100 mA. This may be enough power for the KVM and minimizes the number of cables laying around.
