CF card , have I broken it ?
I found some old floppies , they seemed to work funnily enough ! Anyway , an old A500 game crashed the A1200 with the CF card still in the reader . It now says CF:NDOS or similar , just tried it in my Mac and it says it unreadable . Have I damaged it doing a reset on the Amiga with it still attached ? It was all going so well .... *sigh ... |

Sounds like its become corrupt, you can try running something like DiskSalv
http://aminet.net/package/disk/salv/DiskSalv11_32 If you can just restore the data without losing any personal files then you could just re-prep the CF Card. I've had a couple of CF's fail like this in the past, it sux If it happens again the CF card may be on its way out. All the best, Steve. |

Trouble is Steve , it's the only way I have of transferring data to the Amiga .
I'll have to see it there's a Mac or PC equivalent. The CF card is only a month or so old , so I hope I haven't broken it And it had my high-scores for Pinball Fantasies on it In other news , I did find a Music program called Music Mouse and the disk still works , so not all bad news . |

Was the card attached to your Amiga's IDE controller or PCMCIA port? Was it AmigaDOS or PC-FAT formatted? If you really can't bear the thought of losing your PF highscores, the best way to retrieve them might be by making a RAW disk image of the card on your PC and salvaging the data from that. I could do this for you if you can spare the card for a couple of days while it's in the post back and forth. |

Hi Prowler , it was Pinball Illusions actually , now I think about it !
I was transferring stuff onto the card and testing it worked before moving to internal HD. The card was from the ADF transfer set from Amigakit , so PCMCIA ,I didn't format it , and it worked in Amiga , Mac and PC , so I guess it is DOS . What is the process for taking a RAW image ? I'm reasonably computer savy , so reckon I could do it with a bit of a guide . Thanks for the offer |

http://www.disk-image.net/ There are plenty of links to documentation, plus there is a free version of the disk imager for DOS available which will do what you need if you have a boot floppy and at least one partition on your hard drive which is not NTFS formatted. The DOS version is available on this page: http://www.disk-image.net/download.htm Choose a RAW image. You will need free space on your FAT32 partition to accommodate a disk image the same size as the CF card capacity and a binary file editor to recover the ADF file with your highscores on it and any other files you wish to recover. Edit: If the CF card is significantly less than full you will save much time and hard disk space by creating a Backup image (called a 'Data' image in the DOS version), which will save the occupied sectors only. Whether this will be successful or not will depend on the extent to which the card's filesystem is corrupted. You're still welcome to send it to me if you decide not to do it yourself. PS. Don't forget to keep us all updated on your progress if you do try it yourself. Last edited by prowler; 31 August 2011 at 00:02. |

You could also use P.D. Image creator, it is tiny and simple.
I've tried it with a 8GB SD card. (Backed up amiga formatted card and wrote image successfully to another card) |

Thanks chaps .
I will have a go at this when I get time . I work in IT in a University , guy in the office next to me supports our forensic computing labs , I'm sure he has alsorts of gubbins for getting data off cards , phones , hard drives and stuff. Unfortunately the new term is approaching fast and I have to build a new Mac lab and a Pro-tools recording studio over the next few weeks . Doubt I'll get a chance to play with the Amiga till the dust settles ! |

there is also dd port for windows, but its command line, and perhaps not suitable for novice users. http://www.chrysocome.net/dd
Aminet has dd port for Amiga: http://aminet.net/misc/emu/bffs.lha Last edited by orange; 05 September 2011 at 13:47. |

Nice one, Orange! You can't have too many disk tools.
