Can you mask a bitplane?

Hello guys,

just a quick question.
Is there any easy and not too DMA or CPU heavy way to mask a bitplane?

Like, I have a big static 1 bitplane picture (part of a couple of other bitplanes though, which are used already), and I want to show only a rectangle part of that bitplane. And that mask should be able to move?

Any idea if that is possible with some trick, or would I need to brute force this?
