Problem with Setting Up PC2Amiga - Page 3

I wouldnt go as far as saying a problem directly, but in the mode of dumping direct to Parnet (PC2amiga), the PC side only handles 8.3 filenames, but The dumping disk tries to send full long filenames causing a clash of filenames on disks that have 2 or more disks on the PC side.

That also means.... "Some very long filename.txt" and "Some very long filenames.RAW" gets cropped to 8.3 on PC and causes filename hassles.

Its a hard one to fix as its a PC limitation, not Amiga. You have to be using windows 95 or greater to avoid this, and my temporary solution to the 2000/XP problem is to boot into a PURE DOS MODE and be limited by 8.3

Of course, the Windows 95/98/ME is only a windows fix, as we all know, 95/98/ME only saves 8.3 to the filesystem but reads the someve~1.txt as long filenames.

Hmm, I'm not sure that _can_ be "fixed"...

I guess just type short game names

- but please rename back on PC!

The way I do it is to run MS Virtual PC on the PC, with the VPC running Win95. Problem is VPC slows the machine down horribly, and I am only getting about 30/15KBps Upload/Download

Well, at least you do not have long file name problems that way.
