Cant install WB 3.1 on WINUae 2.7.0
I just installed WinUAE 2.7.0, configured for Amiga 4000 and hard drive DH0: as a directory.
put WB 3.1 in floppy drive, everything boots great. I double click on INSTALL floppy then the next window opens where I double click the install folder. Then the next window opens with all the different languages. The mouse moves but no matter what language I double click on nothing happens. Any ideas? Thanks Bill |

I see you are from the USA. The complete Workbench 3.1 comes on 6 different disks, Install, Locale, Workbench, Storage, Extras and Fonts. If you understand another languge than english, try to install with that languge first, but you then need the Locale disk as an .adf file. I don't remember at the moment if the full american install of Workbench 3.1 needed the Locale disk at all.

The problem is I cant get any language to install. Even just single click should highlight the Icon but nothing happens when I try to select any icon. Single click or double click doesn't do anything

Hm. Funny. Everything works fine here with Quickstart. I went for A4000, 3 disk drives, "Install - Workbench - Locale" in that order. Named the device DH0 as Workbench in Harddrives and selected the directory. Saved the Configuration and hitted "Start" in WinUAE. BTW, what OS do you use at the host machine? Windows 7 or 8 - 32 or 64 bit?

I did the same as ma693541 and did a quick setup using your method set Dir as DH0 (bootable) used 40.68 3.1 rom, Booted with the 3.1 install disk, no problem here.
I would guess you have a corrupt adf file, obviously you have started winuae as administrator ? |

It is most likely broken WB ADF if Quickstart A1200 config does the same.
There is no need for admin privileges, just make sure your harddrive path is in directory that is write-enabled (Never in Program Files). |

Hi Toni,
I found the problem. Even though I saved the config with the paths for the ROM and floppy it was not finding the A4000 ROM, As soon as I added the ROM and saved and reloaded to test everything was fine. Also WinUAE takes me to Microsoft direct X to download, is that supposed to happen? Thanks! Bill Last edited by videofx; 29 December 2013 at 13:43. |

It opens DX download page and switches to DirectDraw if Direct3D mode is selected but DirectX is not new enough, or if it is not full installation.
Windows never comes pre-installed with full DX package, not even Windows 7 or 8. Also any Windows game that is not older than about 3 years normally comes with new enough DX redistributable package, if you don't want to download it. |
