Must have accessories for A1200 Magic Pack?
I was thinking about buying 4GB CF IDE for a starter (which would enable me to transfer HD games from PC to Amiga, I presume?).
As I would already spend quite a few bucks on A1200, I thought getting a hard disk would be a good start towards expanding the Amiga and later, when it's finaincially possible, perhaps buy one of the accelerators. What do you guys think? Thanks. |

You can get one of ikonsgk74 transfer cables and software or Krishnasoft's MPDOS based transfer kit. To move them over. A CDROM is great for sneaker-netting software too as is an Ethernet card for connecting to the web. Then there is Amiga Forever and its Explorer and serial cable transfers (it will do IP/TCP transfers is some cases).

The most convenient solution for transferring files IMO is a PCMCIA network card. If you can't get one of those then there are also low cost PCMCIA CF and SD adapters. SD is the more convenient of the two and these adapters used to be available at dx.com.
A cheap RAM expansion is great to have too. It isn't required for most things, but if you want to run big programs and play all WHDLoad games then you should get a 4M or 8M expansion. |

Yes, this is a must have Low power and no noise at all. Works like a charm.
You can get away much cheaper if you assemble it yourself. But it takes some patience, research and possibly some soldering to get the HDD LED working. If you don't want any hassle, just go for the Amigakit's already prepared solution. |

^^Made the order yesterday (Friday).
I might, in the meantime, buy another CF card in one of the local PC shops and use it on my A600 in the meantime (untill I get the A1200 in June). Plan is, as suggested in one of the previous threads, to put ADF files on it and use Tracktool to save them to floppies. I've actually setup a virtual Workbench 2.0 hard disk bootable in WINUAE and will simply copy all the system files over to the new (formatted) CF card and use it to boot my A600. |

Ha ha, that is exactly what I did a year ago
Mind the Kickstart version though. Since it looks like you're my lost twin brother, you will probably have my A600 bad luck. That's the dreaded Kickstart 37.299 without HD support. I had to buy new Kickstart ROMs. |

^^Oh, I don't worry about that..although the seller couldn't tell me the exact KS version, once I got it and turned it on, the boot screen said 37.350 so I should be fine.

Oh great, you're in business then
Load up Cannon Fodder and start doing some damage Also, you could consider Workbench 2.1 instead of 2.0. I think it has some improvements. |

BTW, would WB 2.1 work fine if I have a 2.0 Rom A600 (that's what it says on the boot screen)?

Je je, will work My setup is just like that. Besides, there are no 2.1 kicks.
2.05 (37.350) which we have, and then 3.0. I think 2.1 WB has some crossdos improvements. It will make your life easier if you need do use floppies to exchange data between Amiga and PC. |

2.1 is almost like 3.0 but without AGA support. Much recommended in any case.
