Cd1200

Some of you may find this interesting.

Amiga user Egon Kohlschütter has managed to fit both a CD-ROM and an IDE harddisk into the A1200's original case. The idea is to move the harddrive to the right of the case (to the position normally occupied by the internal disk drive) and put the CD-ROM to the left side of the case. The floppy drive had to be removed to gain the neccessary space (Egon uses an external drive now) and the case had to be slightly modified.
Pics and info on how to do it yourself are available at the link provided.

Big grin

Ironic how Amiga & C64 programmers always squeezed every byte of memory to produce excellence, now they're shoe-horning it in a whole new way!

Didn't that modded "Amiga 1300" have CD, HDD, & FDD?
I guess this one is using a 3.5 inch HDD, & the other was 2.5 inch

It would've been interesting to compare them, but the plans if I remember rightly for the A1300 were locked up in Fort Knox.

That CD1300 amiga! it aint amazing, granted it looks good but it aint nothing to sit in awe at!

The things ive seen done with pc hardware make that amiga look like nothing more than what it really is! a case painted black with a laptop drive stuck in it! its easy to do the weblink: http://gutjahr.free.fr/hardware/cd1200.html shows how.

the plans if I remember rightly for the A1300 were locked up in Fort Knox

does it make it worth more? not too me as i wouldnt buy it personally! i would build my own instead! just about to visit a few local pc shops to see what laptop drives they have.

@rattus - Go for it! dont be a wuss and show us your modding skills

I would never hack up my a1200 case since they are hard to find in the us if you screw it up.

If you don't mind buying from over here (australia) check out http://www.anythingamiga.com/amiga/cat50_1.htm

I reckon they used to make a few new 1200's in towers and sell the cases.

[EDIT]
Sorry if anyone read this before. I had the wrong shop thats why i couldn't find them [/EDIT]
