For this last one, did you noticed it has on disk 1 the protoscan longtrack protection? This in track 79.

It doesnt initialise at the start, so I guess a routine for checking is triggered later. I pmed you.
Didn't know the protection track was protoscan, but it is the same protection used in many Gremlin based games. In the disk-analysis world it is labeled as gremlin_longtrack

Excerpt from Keir's protection code

/* TRKTYP_gremlin_longtrack: Lotus I/II, + many others
* u16 0x4124,0x4124
* Rest of track is (MFM-encoded) zeroes, and/or unformatted garbage.
* The contents are never checked, only successive sync marks are scanned for.
*
* Track is checked to be >= 102400 bits long.
* Specifically, protection checks for >= 6400 raw words between
* successive sync marks. Track contents are not otherwise checked or tested.
*
* Track is typically ~105500 bits long. */

As for the confused....how to tell if you have a different version of a game than that which has been preserved as an official IPF.

basically, when you have an alternate version, the whdload slave doesn't work with the game.

Yeah Gremlin name is a bad idea, because Gremlin, us gold, and even psygnosis used the protoscan longtrack protection.

There was a disk duplication company called Protoscan, duplicated disks for some Amiga magazines, one of the founders Andy Eltis developed the 'Protec' disk protection, so is the 'Protoscan' protection a variant of 'Protec'?

Protoscan was based in Sheffield. Psygnosis, Gremlin and U.S.gold used their services.

Why not asking Andy on facebook what is all about it ?

Nice, I wonder how many more people can find!

Think there are still 2 official IPF's still to be released, fryguys Kalas Puffs Expressen was from the dump he sent to Denis, so not official. Plus Abaddons Downhill Challenge seems to have skied off course a bit as it hasn't managed to finish up in the Zone winners enclosure yet

Hi guys!
Does anyone have the IPF (or raw files) of "Super Methane Brothers" Disk B and "Race Drivin' Disk 2 (Game Boot disk)?
I have both games but while the first disks seem to both work well both disks 2 aren't the right disk (one of them was a savegame disk and the other had a cracked game on it...).
Thanks for your help!
PS:
I own a Kryoflux so If someone is interested I can dump the raw files from the first disks...

even a floppy 2 of Super Methane Brothers that works with the original floppy one would be ok... does anyone have it? Those that I have tried didn't work.
And, as per Race Drivin' Disk 2, is there a game disk without cracktro?
Thanks in advance...

Super Methane Bros Disks

Hi All,
Not sure if this is of any use, but, disk one runs, and requests disk two, and the game seems to play??

Cheers

Super Methane Bros from memory use a weak bit protection track. So without kryo board, no cigar, you need a deprotected disk.
