WinUAE 1.5.2 (and later betas) fail to start

Right, tested...

All official releases work fine, up until 1.5.2, which refuses to start. None of the posted betas in the 1.5.3 beta thread work either - all quit with the same error:

If you're interested, this is the windows' "extra info":

WinuaeBootlog.txt is created, but is a zero byte file. No directx plugins are installed - no plugins folder. New drive sounds are not installed either - completely clean WinUAE install, apart from my system ROM files.

This machine is a Samsung R600+ laptop - Windows Vista home premium, 2gb RAM, ATI x1250 gfx card, 160gb hdd.

Hope this is something you can fix - let me know if you need any extra-debug versions testing.

Which is first 1.5.2 beta that fails to start?
Does anything appear in log window if you run winuae with -log parameter? ("winuae.exe -log")

Right, I dug up the old 1.5.2 thread, and all four betas refuse to run. So, this log is produced by 1.5.2 beta 1:

Probably another totally broken openal32.dll.. Do you have openal32.dll somewhere in system32 directory? If yes, list size and version info. (right click the file and select properties)

Yep, it certainly is -

v 6.14.357.7

If there's another version out there I should have, then lemme know - this came from the OpenAL homepage.

Does it stop crashing if you install latest openal? OpenAL download page says latest is 6.14.357.22. (I have 6.14.357.23, maybe it comes only with Creative's cards?)

Yep, that fixed it. Thanks Toni. Is there any way you can warn the user on startup that their OpenAL is broken and needs to be updated? Rather than just crashing, that is?

Great. I'll modify version test and only accept 6.14.357.22 or newer. (older versions only checked for 6.14 because I thought it was good enough..)
