Commie Phone

Anyone notice this at Engadget? Why does the Commodore name get recycled so much? Is it hoping nostalgia will fuel sales? http://www.engadget.com/2015/07/14/commodore-phone/

The Commodore PET runs a custom version of Android 5.0 Lollipop and two preinstalled emulators. They weren’t finished on the prototype I used, but I’m told they’ll be customized versions of theVICE C64 emulatorand theUae4All2-SDL Amiga emulator.

** so it's the same android emulators that already exist?

It's just an horrendous cash grab made by some Italian "entrepreneur".

They somehow got an hold of the Commodore license (and even so, I wouldn't be so sure of that - they conduct business in truly questionable ways in Italy, usually "forgetting" to do stuff like licensing until later) and slapped it on a no-name Chinese smartphone hoping that long time fans will just buy it for sake of Nostalgia.

This explains the situation pretty well, not sure why the other media outlets are drinking so much Kool-Aid: http://www.androidpolice.com/2015/07...ets-attention/

You basically self-answer it: if it hadn't been the Commodore name, you wouldn't have taken notice and wouldn't have found the need to distribute awareness

I've had to delete 8 of these a day in our Commodore Amiga Facebook group, One is fine, but it's as bad as the Amiga heating system... Bah!

Considering that up to 90% of all the stuff in modern households is made in China, one could argue that we all live in a commie environment

Made in china is not the same as designed in china.. These guys just took a random reference design from some chinese ODM, and shipped an svg of the logo to be printed on the back cover.

Negligible own investment. Naturally they need enough money for an initial production run.

Don't blame you! really looks like an attempt to cash in on nostalgia, just like what the now-defunct Commodore USA tried to do.

Personally, if I had a few million dollars, I'd love to go around and collect up all these Commodore and Amiga-related trademarks around the world and the Kickstart and AmigaOS code and bring them under a single entity. After that, who knows?

Could you resist the temptation of making money off that? :-)
