Another Steam Annoyance

I really hesitate calling this one an annoyance but it somewhat is, let me explain.

This is most likely not going to happen to most of you just due to the size of my Steam Library and how many games I have installed at the same time.

On a daily basis I have about 12 ~ 18 games that get updated.

I start this update process manually by clicking on the UPDATE button.

Some of the games don't complete the process and state the following:

File Contents Locked.

I've only ever seen this on pre-loaded games but now I'm seeing it more and more.

I wonder if this is due to Steam Service overloads or what ?

Any ideas on this one ?

Is it possible that there are common files between games that are updated, and then queued for update again by another game that uses them? More likely to happen the more games you have installed I guess... But also, gaming services are under huge amounts of demand at the moment, so it could be as simple as too many requests for the server to keep up with. It'll all be back to normal soon

"I've only ever seen this on pre-loaded games but now I'm seeing it more and more."

I'm confused. Pre-loaded games? I know of only two states for a game - installed or not installed. Only something that is installed will get updated. What do you mean by this?

Of course, leave it to M.C. Steamy to find all the bugs in the software. At this point they should pay you for doing constant load testing.

So I have purchased a few games ahead of the release, on Steam about a week or so before the release you can download a pre-loaded version, basically the files are Content Locked so when you view the pre-load on the downloads page it shows the contents as being locked, not something like needs updating.

@Anubis, it has happened when ASF is running and when it is not running.

I have me Steam Client settings setup to download games while playing too.

I just have this feeling that it's the Steam Service in general getting more overloaded due to the current situation.

I also think that the size of my library is contributing to this issue.

It's not really bad as today none of the 30+ updates showed this, but the day is still young.

Wouldn't it be nice if Valve would give me access to all the Steam games and apps for doing this testing

Oh, jmmojo bragging about size again...

ASF sometimes would queue games, and that should prevent update and confuse client.

I did have once issue with some update, but it had to do with direct x or c distribution, can't remember anymore.
