NEC FD1231M looks similar to FD1231H. FD1231H are more than 2 PCB layouts available. This drive on your picture can only hacked with fake-ready (diode) between pin 30 and 34. Cut 2 traces and solder 2 wires on the controller ic. If you want to do this, i can go into detail. But i recommend choosing an other drive with real ready and no motor power-save function.

Here is the how-to for NEC FD1231H as internal drive with diode fake-ready hack:

Cut the traces from Pin 34 + 12, add diode and wires as you can see in detail on the pictures attached.

Does anyone experienced the same problem???
I've tried to copy with X-copy and with Amiga Explorer through my PC and the result is the same.
The floppy's are ok, i've formatted them after trying to write them with this drives and made a copy with my PC catweasel MK4 and they work fine, so the problem is with this floppy drives.

If anyone experienced this problem and fix it please tell me how.
hello, I found your same problem, did you find a solution? can you help me please?

The problem might be that these drives have a so called "power save" mode. Simple test: format a disk in workbench. Open shell and read the directory from the formated drive. Result is the disk is, at most, not readable. Maybe the Problem is the same with xcopy...i haven't tried this.

PC HD floppy

I found what looked like a regular Sony MPF920-C in some stuff I bought recently, but on opening it up, I found it has been heavily modded. Putting into my A4000T shows that this PC drive can read and write HD floppies at half-speed. Might be interesting for anyone wanting to mod a similar drive themselves.

Panasonic mod

Have a Panasonic JU-257A896P, what a cow of a thing to pull down, but no idea where to start the mod as I have no information.
Any chance someone has an image and instructions, otherwise I will just give the drive the old heave ho!!

PC drives are DF1 by default - the twist in the floppy cable is what changes them to drive A or leaves them as drive B.

Do you have an A2000, 3000 or 4000?

If yes, you just leave the drive as DS1 instead of modifying it to DS0. Remember to close the DF1 present jumper on the motherboard.

If you have an A500/600/1000/1200 instead, you will need to have the motor/ready logic board from an external drive to make it an external drive.

I have Amiga 500, but I wanted to make one more PC floppy to work as DF1.
So I will have to find some logic board for that, thanks for advice

If you can solder the logic board yourself you can use the AmiExtFDD
