Anything but the very latest PC web browser is bound to be a bit daft.

Today I switched to using Linux for web browsing because though the latest version of Firefox my XP machine can run is less than 2 years old, it now won't render some web pages properly (with fatal results). Of course the new Firefox is also a bit daft in other ways, but I have to put up with it. It's like 1995 all over again. Some things never change!

They still have to finish that OS4 Crysis port, then they'll get right on that Chrome port. First things first.

That is absolutely not true anymore since MorphOS 3.13 brouht a completely rfurbished Odyssey Web-Browser!

you can watch Youtube as well as doing Homebanking with it.

If that's the only thing you do with a web browser, then good for you. Quite a lot of sites i frequently use simply don't work, or "work" but are unusable.

Sure thing: https://www.shadertoy.com/

And just to be clear, I have a MorphOS 3.13 installation running and have tested the sites myself. And I also understand why many sites simply won't work, and I don't really expect them to either.

There's a small clue in the site name too why it won't work on MorphOS

Needs a modern browser...Internet Explorer is EOL and only still there "in order to maintain compatibility with older websites and intranet sites that require ActiveX and other Microsoft legacy web technologies".

Well, if you're satisified with Internet Explorer level of functionality, then more power to you. Many of us require a bit more than that.

That's a case of "why let the perfect ruin the good" though.

Most people would be happy with a browser that can do the things that Rotzloeffel mentioned.

For me that would be browsing forums, youtube, facebook, doing some homebanking, web whatsapp, and ordering stuff online.

I think if this site is anything to go by it's very clear that the dream is very much over.

http://www.amigahistory.plus.com/amigaosdev1.html

We are 18.5 years behind, technically I guess more because that's when 4.2 was due.

And some people seem to be happy with plain old IBrowse. Doesn't make my original point invalid (even if I was exaggerating a bit).

EDIT: And to be clear again, it's not all the fault of the browser. Amiga NG systems simply aren't up to par in a lot of other departments as well (speed, memory, graphics drivers) which modern day browsers simply require.

Question is, what kind of dream? I f somebody things that there is some kind of comeback for a Amiga it is not a dream, he is just a delusional.

Or that would be possible to use Amiga (again) as general purpose computer? Woun't happen and nobody should dream about it.

My dream is that there a enough hobbyists that OS4 can evolve and have it's own ecosystem.

Browser like Netsurf is just fine for me, it does job when needed. Rarely I need to start Odyssey to make possible download files. Youtube is OK, with SMtube, so no need Windows machine for that. Last time I watched flashfloppy tutorial.

The exactly same thing happens with the Vampire.

There is nothing wrong with any of them, they are cool in different aspects. But none of them is an Amiga.
So you're saying a vampire isint an Amiga?, if it was an ASIC would it be an Amiga?.
The hatred for the Vampire astounds me, should we stay in the past or have some modernised progression of the Amiga? I'm for the later but realise people want to limit the Amiga to the 90's.

As someone else in the thread said, it all depends on how you define Amiga.
Looks like its different for different people and thats fine.

For me, Amiga is the hardware, as designed by Commodore/Amiga. Nothing more, nothing less.
Everything else is either a software emulator, Amiga clone (FPGA based solutions which implement the chipset) or some generic hardware running an Amiga-like OS.

Vampire V4 is an advanced clone.
Vampire V2 is a kickass accelerator for classic Amigas with added optional RTG.
