You must be joking.

I would more willingly agree with you concerning Turrican II, & Superfrog (Super Cauldron should receive more appraisal) cult status, to a certain extend.

ok, some games I think that are overrated:

- Turrican Series (what is all about the hype? Music is great, but I don't really get much fun)
- F 16 Falcon (hey, I am an Interceptor-Pilot!)
- Speedball 2 (I do like the first one more)
- Monkey Island 2 (I loved the first one, but the 2nd wasn't as much fun)
- Bundesliga Manager Hattrick (way too complicated)

and some others I don't remember atm.

Just to make it clear: I don't think (and say) that the above games are CRAP! I just would have given a lower ranking.

I think that the rating of Battle Squadron in Amiga Computing Issue 22 was a bit too high

Agony because being a honey bee is so much cooler. Not to mention the game simply bores me to death.

They were silly to give Xenon II a perfect score in the first place.

Although their perfect score for Stunt Car Racer was spot on. The last paragraph of the review for that game is eerily accurate.

Yup, they're pretty good in rating inflation Haveyou seen that they gave Stunt Car Racer a rating of 100% in the same issue with Battle Squadron

You know, it's just that 100% are , not that SCR isn't a great game

Just because I'm not good at it doesn't mean I don't like it and appreciate the unique physics and stuff

No offense taken mate Giving a game a rating of 100% means that it is perfect and honestly I haven't seen a game that deserves this rating yet (and think I never will )

Funny thread, this is...

What do you girls expect from 15-20 years old game?

Just take Turrican for example:
  • Large and various levels
  • A lot of different enemies, great bosses
  • A lot of power ups
  • Option to roll and use land mines or shield,...
  • Story behind the game (it might not make a sense now, but it was cool at the time)
  • Nice gfx and tune
So, what else do you expect from a game?? What would be a good improvement in your opinion??

You can take all other games from cv643d's list and ask the same question, and you'll figure out all of them were really good and playble games. (except SotB, which did look impresive at the time, but was not very playable unless you enjoy pixel-point movements)

IMHO overrated games - doom on PC and rest of the clones.

Well it's sure that since we're older, and have played more complex games, some games
appears now as overrated yes. What more natural ?

Aged, not overrated. Which is entirely different.

A game isn't overrated just because a few people don't like the game. The only games that are overrated are games that score more than it deserves because of hype. But when there's a universal mark of approval from gamers, apart from a select few, it certainly isn't overrated.

I also don't believe that subjectivity is all that matters when judging games. There's some degree of opinion, but I believe a game CAN be objectively good or bad. If this wasn't the case, try one of the budget games from Phoenix on the PS2 - can you honestly say these games aren't objectively bad games? Some very few people may find some enjoyment in them, but some people also find enjoyment in being burned by cigarette stumps. I guess that could be said to be underrated?

Also the joy of cutting yourself with razorblades is often underestimated... or maybe not
