There have been people known to sell things for ridiculous prices. Also, by making something worth more, you inflate prices for other hardware.

Only 5 years ago Amigas were under £15 but now they're going for £100+!

just crazy prices.....I bought a A500 sold as untested....yes i know...i was a bit stupid going so....Green screen....£80 down the drain......bought another "boxed2 A500 that powers up...£75 he says the power light is constant and the disk drive is waiting for a disk.

I would love a A1200 but there stupid money and not within my buget...i already have the partner asking "how many computers do you need" lol

I think you all misread. It's 35 THOUSAND euros (plus 18,70 euros for postage ). Ridiculous.

Maybe time to sell my old yellowed A500 2MB with a return key that doesn't work that I don't use for years.

Green screen is usually pretty easy to fix, it's usually a chip ram problem or a problem with the agnus seating.

I'd been putting off buying an A1200 for years. Finally pulled the trigger last year but, frankly, waited way too long. For a decent one with box, disks, manuals and all the rest you're pretty much paying what you would have new. Really wish I'd just bought one in the late 90s/early noughties when people were practically giving them away.

Also, on a related note, wish I'd never got rid of my A500 back in 2002: and I *really* wish I hadn't lost (or possibly disposed of) all the disks I had with my old AMOS programs on them - not sure when they finally disappeared.

Just didn't have the room for all this stuff at the time. Oh well, live and learn.

Being enamored by the quick progress that PC's were making at that time I would say quite a few would have let their Amiga's go, without realizing that one day the Amiga bug would bite once again. I regret not having got an Amiga at that time either but it is what it is. I have an A1200 and an A600 now and love 'em.

I sold my A500 immediately upon seeing the PlayStation teaser of the Tyranosuarus. 2 years ago I was checking through some floppy discs I had for my PC which reminded me of my days with myvold Amiga. I mentioned it to an old school mate who said he had an Amiga in the garage. I shot up to get it and it was a 1200! I'm about 2 grand into the Amiga bug.

This makes me feel slightly better: I'm "only" about £600 in so far. (Of course, I bought an 030 accelerator to upgrade the thing almost immediately, and now I've got an email tempting me to one of those fancy FPGA jobbies, which is just *way* more expensive again... and after that I'll still have a computer that's slower than my 19 year old Athlon 600MHz, but of course, that's not an Amiga and runs Windoze 2000 so doesn't really compare. )

I cant buy an accelerator card, im to much of a purist. What ive done is buy 4 of them. Ive got 2 x 1200s one has a new case. The other has an original case but its mint. A 600 in great condition and a tatty 500+ but ive ordered the special rise of the underkind se case. New psus, hard drives, cf cards etc etc

If I remember correctly some eBay sellers set the price stupid high instead of cancelling the listing when out of stock etc.

I managed to pick up an accelerated 1200 from a mate who was selling his. I did not have much cash as I was moving abroad. I managed to get it for £50. I owe him one.

2 types of sellers.

1) Is "original owner" and that's the only one to get an honest bargain from.

2) Is profiteer. Someone who buys from the above, and adds a "nostalgia tax" on top in the name of profit.

Now....while seller type 1 is the one to go for, of course they are hard to find, especially internationally.

Seller 2, while annoying at times, provides a service of sorts. They find the gems and (hopefully) make them easier to find for the rest of us.

A good type 2 will also ensure everything is in good working order, or do a quality restoration.

A bad type 2, will wipe it with a cloth and advertise as "restored".

Those are my observations in the short time I've been looking.

Not amiga related and not as inflated as the OP, but there's a PC 3dFX banshee card for sale....in box......£499 ...for what was a BUDGET card in it's day! FFS

The irony of 3DFX cards:

In childhood: couldn't afford it.

In adulthood: makes no sense to pay more than the original cost of the card!

Fortunately, thanks to glide wrappers you can now enjoy 3DFX without the price tag.

It beggars belief to think back in the late 90s, you could find companies throwing out dumpsters full of perfectly working Amiga 4000s and people putting their own stuff out by the side of the road for the rubbish collectors, and now it commands such ridiculous prices.

Yeah, me too. But that's just the way companies think, if it's not turning a profit it goes in the bin. I used to have a decent collection of Amstrad CPC stuff I picked up off the side of the road in about 1996 or so. I've since sold it to a guy in Williamstown, but at least its still in the hands of someone who appreciates such things.
