Backup Original Disk of Elite

Hi all,

my 25 year old disk of Elite never got a backup as I was never able to copy it. I tried different copy programs like XCopy but the unreadable blocks are a problem. Any hints how to manage it? I think it's time for a backup

Have you tried nibble mode in x-copy? Also, try the cracked version of PowerCopy by Stingray: http://eab.abime.net/showpost.php?p=753776&postcount=9 but not sure if it's copylock as well?

I've got IPF's of Elite, original release and v2.0 so depends which version you need. If you have a Kryoflux you can write the IPFs back to disk for a 100% backup.

Update: I've created an extended ADF in WinUAE and copied each of the IPFs to it using x-copy nibble and the eADF loads, I can get past the manual protection and get into the game! So, use x-copy in nibble mode and it should work! I also checked the copy with the Elite WHDLoad installer but it errored on track 78 saying No sync signal? Same happened for the IPF too!!

Sorry for necro, but anyone managed to copy the original?

I have exact same problem. Got original boxed game, want to copy it. Nibble option does not help.

Thanks in advance!

Lockpick 2 says it can Duplicate the protection.

Just Read Above - BarryB said he did it with X-Copy Nibble - Must be the only game X-Copy can copy.

Let me have a look, Powercopy should be able to copy it. Let's see.....

Come on guys !...... This game has no copy protection _at all_.

It uses AmigaDOS track "modded", there's no long track, no custom track, no real on disk protection. The only condition i possibly see is that you try to copy on shite disk (it won't work !).

I just tried X-Copy DOSCOPY in WinUAE without verify and it copied the IPF to an eADF and loaded it back in WinUAE. X-Copy shows red 5's meaning error in header/format long. I also tried Lockpick v2.0 and that copied the IPF to eADF and that loaded back in WinUAE too!

So should be doable on real hardware using the original disk to a 'good' blank disk. You could format the blank disk in X-Copy with verify on to see if the disk is good!

It's definitely protected, an Atari ST style single side MFM loader, whether the tracks are $1400 sized like ST I dont know as I'm not near a computer, but it should be able to be nibble copied by something like Marauder 2 or even BurstNibbler

PowerCopy has a parameter to copy it too! Maverick says it will copy the disk and remove the DOC check too so tried it in WinUAE and it does indeed copy the disk and remove the DOC check

Phil, Elite use Amigados tracks modded. There are no Atari St tracks on this game. Each track is 11 sectors with sync 4489.

Yes, this is the definition of "modded". But this small protection can be easily passed and copied.
