Blizzard 1230-IV SCSI KIT

I am thinking of buying the Blizzard 1230-IV SCSI Kit. Is it any good as I want to expand my A1200?
If someone has one spare please contact me.

The Blizzard SCSI Kit is a DMA interface so it can operate independently from the CPU leaving the CPU to do other tasks. It also provides another useful SIMM socket (upto 128MB).

If you have a Blizzard 1230 though, you will need to put it into 70ns mode when using the second SIMM socket. Other Blizzards such as the 1240 and 1260 dont need to do this.

Dunno why, but i cant use/see 1230scsi.device without software update to rev 8.5

I bought it not long ago at amigakit

Code:
USAGE & INSTALLATION
        Very easy: First copy at least the files SoftSCSI and A1234.ROM of
        this archive in your C: assign. Now put in the first line of your
        startup-sequence this one:

        C:SoftSCSI

yes, but without ide devices, it's seems

a friend has a scsi kit on blizzard 1260 + quantum fireball 2go, but if there are no hard drive ide mounted and only an ide cdrom... There are about 40 second black screen before the boot.......

I had solved it using a bootable ide devices with the scsi HD

The boot delay is normal if you use SCSI devices. You can build a little adaptor to disable the IDE port, so you avoid the boot delay on power up. You can also disable the IDE port through software (using BlizKick), but that won't disable the boot delay on power up, only after the first reset.

Here you will find the instructions to make a blob which removes the wait if you have no harddrive attached. This one says it is for the A4000, but just ignore the power-pins on the 2.5" ide connector in the A1200 (pin 41-44) and it will be the same. You will need a 2.5" connector instead of a 3.5" also ofcourse.

@Chain:

Are you sure it isn't so that the rom on your card is simply broken or can't be read for some other readon, as that would result in no 1230scsi.device being available at boot. SoftSCSI just puts a new 1230scsi.device in ram, disregarding of wether the onboard rom works or not.

Have you tried SoftSCSI with a rom-image of an older version of 1230scsi.device?

how i can read it?

it must not be removed (says amigakit), cos card is still in warranty

Yes, of course. If the harddrive on the Blizzard SCSI kit couldn't be accessed without launching SoftSCSI (haven't even heard of it before) I would just be stuck with the purple boot screen, since I only use SCSI drives in my Amigas.

@Chain:
Yes you can see the device without SoftSCSI, I assure you that it works every time on my A1200. The card is made to be autobootable and this isn't the kickstart1.2 stoneage .

If the computer is unable to load the device from the rom on the card into ram at boot, it will not be autobootable.

Have you tried to load an older version than 8.5 of 1230scsi.device btw? SoftSCSI doesn't care about wether the rom works or not, it just puts the image you specify into ram.. What I am trying to say is - are you sure it is just a version issue?
