Gorf, this is exactly the test i want to do,, my thoughts are if an Amiga had a USB interface, DENEB or other, then after the ROMULATOR< boots the ROM, it turns on USB and the amiga could see the contexts of the SD.

Ideas i have are partition the SD for ROMs and Games ADF, and use Goadf or some menu system.

Even a nice custom ROM that has the DENEB or other driver right in it so it can mount the USB and boot off it.

i hope this answers your questions, and i really hope we are on the same thought train.

questions for me is what options are out there for a USB interface? i know about DENEB and the icomp, rapidroad, but those are hard to get and expensive..

is there anyone that can make a cheap 68k socket USB device, or ZORRO usb device?

if this was put together with our SDE+ SD card and Ethernet all in one, we would have a really inexpensive device that does it all.

Yes, that kind of things are exactly what I was talking about!

Sadly I do not see a cheap USB-Controller anywhere ... but on the other hand I am planning to get a ZZ9000 for my A3000, and this card will hopefully provide USB soon.
(hardware is on board, but it is not supported yet...)

Here is a picture of both 16 bit versions, on the left the A600 version. The A500 is on the right. If you are using a Rev3/5 A500 then the jumper needs to be enabled. Thy are electronically the same but the socket is rotated 180 degrees

Hi,

The Arm processor contains proprietary code and will not be released publically. Users can suggest features and the core can be updated whenever new features etc become available.

That is too bad that such a choice of a processor was made. Why would users want to give control of their hardware to the developers?

What about the hardware? Will at least the design of it be released under a free license?

Don't buy it if it's not compatible with your views. Everyone is free to license their stuff as they please.

There are a lot of developers for the Amiga and most use proprietry code, it protects their investment against people cloning. Some people are willing to release their source code, others not. As Jope stated, it is a personal choice whether you want to purchase or create your own. There has been a lot of man hours put in to this project and work is ongoing to bring out new HW which is an offshoot of this

Hi.

no worries, it doesn't hurt to ask if sources will be available. For the 32 bit version, i have the HW completed as such (2MB RAM). There are some coding, address line changes that need to be made and probably a couple of support chips. Mike has a lot on his plate so i hope we get there sooner than later. I will update whenever we have something new to say on this

Hi All,

Just chiming in to confirm the situation with the USB support...

Yes the device just looks like normal USB mass storage class so I see no reason why it wouldn't work talking to suitably equipped Amiga once it has switched to run mode, just as it would with an external PC.

By design, the Romulator switches off its USB port while it is in the menu so there is no risk of both the Romulator and the host accessing the SD card at the same time. Only the root directory is searched for ROM images so if you wanted to store other stuff on there as well then this should work fine as long as the other stuff is in a folder.

Mike
