Trouble with MiamiDX
Hi, I seem to be not the brightest when it comes to setting this up.
I have an amiga A500 with the ACA500 and ACA1232. There is a subway attached and I have a USB Ethernet adapter for it. I have installed MiamiDX and have tried the Miamiinit program to get Miami to connect. I just can't seem to get it to work. I have selected Ethernet cable/DSL modem, I select other for the network equipment, I use the usbasixeth.device with unit 0 (selected from Trident). It finds the subnet mask at 255.255.255.0 default gateway 192.168.0.1 then it verifies the DNS. It comes back with unable to obtain a host name so it asks for a dummy name I put in amiga500 then hit return. It then just gives me a busy mouse pointer and does not proceed any further. I am not sure what I am doing wrong. I am hoping someone on this site can help. Thanks |

Do I have to do something with the actual modem? Do I just make up a static IP address? Is the static IP the same as the subnet mask? I don't fully understand the whole process? The default gateway would I choose something like 192.168.0.101?
Thanks |

I have also tried to get Easynet to work, but I still can't seem to get it working. Easynet does not seem to like the usbasixeth.device. Is there a work around. Does anyone have their amiga surfing the net through a USB Ethernet adapter?

Hi Thanks for the reply. I spent a couple hours playing with both MiamiDX and AmiTCP Easynet. I was finally able to get both to work. The only problem is I tried to use the MiamiDX keygen program, but the keys seem to hang Miami. It does work in demo mode. I have just downloaded some keys for Miami, but have not yet tried them yet. Does anyone know which is the better of the 2 to use. Is there a nice and easy way to using either so that it automatically goes on line on boot. Thanks.

I use MiamiDX myself on OS31
on OS39 I use Genesis (built-in) which is AmiTCP 2.2 I think. I only use the network for downloading stuff from aminet/ftp (and os41 updates) when I don't have a better way of moving files between pc/amiga. for the Amiga1200 I prefer using pcmcia/CF transfers. Speeds are much higher there, even though I have to move my lazy ass |
