Read .info on a PC?

Hi all

Is there a Windows app that will open Amiga .info files?

Thanks in advance

Yes, WinUAE!

Seriously, though, I think it is the only Windows app that can.

Steve.

What do you mean "open"?

Directory Opus 9 for Windows will open icons as images and allow you to convert them to GIF/JPEG.

Support is less than perfect. Only one palette setting, supports NewIcons but not OS3.5+ icons.

Unfortunately Dr.Greg decided to move as far away from the Amiga he could and so he will not update any of the remnant Amiga features of DO

I would have bought a copy if he had!

IrfanView can show them and allows some tinkering.

How? Tried the latest version, standard plugins, and it says "File format not recognised". I tried "old icons", "new icons" and "os3.5 Icons" all the same.

Doesnt help if you rename the icons .IFF or .ILBM either

Am I being dumb?

XnView also lists "Amiga icon (.info)" as a supported format. I can't be bothered to try it right now.

Just tried both versions of XnView and it doesn't like any .info files I give it. Onto InfranView now.

There's a BeOS tool called AmigaIcon that may be of some interest (depending on whether you can find anything else and how desperate you are ).

http://home.c2i.net/damnrednex/amigaicon/

Source code is also included and, since it's a BeOS app, it's fairly readable C++ code. Maybe someone wants to port the essential parts, I'm afraid I'm too busy to do it for a while.

The XnView formats page is not very clear because it includes all file types supported by the backend NOT what is supported by the XnView GUI application. The NConvert command line application supports standard Amiga icons (NI and 3.5 icons don't work despite what the changelog says) while XnView itself does not.

Nope, just had a look on an Amiga drawer icon from my 3.9 partition and it looked just as should. I have IrfanView 4.00 and all plugins that I could download some months ago.

WinAmicon works, it has quite a few problems with icons with non standard palettes just as Directory Opus does. If all you wanna do is RIP icon gfx then I say use DirectoryOpus9 it works most of the time and is easier to use.

@ Zipper
It has to be a 3rd party plugin. Find out what it's called.
