Moon hasn't any plot similarities to 2001, that's true. I think 2001 was technically ahead of the times, but not a good movie.

A) They are both in space.
B) They are both films. C) They have actors in them. |

Especially because 2001 didn't really have any plot - it is a collection of "happenings" in which you have to find your own story.
With 2001, I wasn't clever enough to be able to do it :/ I read some ideas on the internet and that helped me to make some sense of what happens in the movie. In that respect Moon is more enjoyable - it is the same kind of "happenings" movie but it does try to tell a plot at the same time; there is more to be entertained by. In that same "genre" I also like Solaris (the US version). You have to find your own story in everything that happens, but it makes it easier for you to do so. |

Gee, What did I do ?
I'll put it another way : I'll watch Outland first, and maybe Moon later on. I never said 2001 was the only source of inspiration for Moon. I could quote or link to the review on imdb, but it seems you enjoyed watching it unanimously. This said, I definitely salute the effort of the Director and the main actor. About the similarities I could notice (having in mind I haven't watched Moon), I'd mention the HAL-type computer twisted actions, and the sense of loneliness / captivity. I suggest you watch 2001 in a few years, the Internet attempts to clarify it cannot replace watching the movie from a more mature man's standpoint (not a matter of IQ IMHO). There's a plot in 2001 (in two words : some guys investigating why previous expedition has turned wrong), but its aim is also to reflect on such concepts as elongation of time, and ultimately leave you in awe before space's beauty (and old-school 3D modeling) and mankind's efforts to settle in hostile places. |

You're commenting on something you have no experience of.
Just go and watch it (Moon that is, the film we speak of in this instance, right now in this film thread about films you've seen), then you can come back and give your opinion on it. Otherwise you're just posting shite. |

Well, I don't know what's worse :
Evoking a movie's plot when one hasn't watched it (there's no rule against it, AFAIK and I -Deli am not the one speaking about its similarities, imdb's reviewer does) or completely failing to see what's great about a classic such as 2001. Here is an small excerpt of said review Quote:

Way to go, people who haven't seen it can now see all your spoilers.

Right, I edited the quote and only left the part about Outland.
Needless to say, I can only speak about the personal reasons why I wouldn't watch it, and yes, it's partly based on that review. Fortunately, I don't have to watch all the hyped movies out there ! |

Ok.
Then you miss out. If you think Moon was hyped then you're an idiot. Now shut up about the Moon unless you've watched. |

Despite your constant persistance in trying to point it out, I do not post in OT to appear witty, intelligent or anything else to anyone else.
If I did, I would have admitted failure and stopped by now. Something which I wish you'd consider. |

@Deli
Let's make things simple. Watch a film, then post your opinion here, if you haven't ever watched a particular film "THEN DON'T BLOODY POST ANYTHING" 'cause it's mind bogglingly stupid that someone can think they can comment about something they know F@#k all about. Now drop it everybody and please, let's get back on topic!!!! |
