Restoring a dented or warped game box
Hi,
What methods do people use to restore game boxes? Not sure if this is the best method for fixing dented or crushed games boxes, but I have used a steam iron with a dish cloth to restore the dents. Below are some before and after pictures. Before: After: The results are pretty good IMHO. The creases are obviously still visible, but it is now more box shaped! |

Picked up a €1 copy of X-wing with water damage, the front had "caved in".
Used a similar approach, but I also had to drench the paper so it wouldn't break when restoring it. Steam ironed on low heat with protective cloth, and then put weights on the paper and let it dry for 2 days. After that some light retouch on the edges with brown/black marker pens. It's an improvement, good enough to put on the retro shelf. But the frayed carton edges are more fuzzy, and the cover lost a bit of colour. I probably wouldn't do the same to a nice box that just got some dents. But then again, a simple weight press for a couple of day without water is probably enough. |
