I will try this, but count on my fucking it up!

Actually, when I am in shell (if I make it that far), what do I type something like run df0:?

Run Citadel1 ?
Run DF0: Citadel1 ?

No, I ran from WB... I haven't seen that you wrote the installer must be run from Shell.

Edit: ok, so I do as you say and now get this...

Is that installed from original version (as in movie here)? If it's from crack maybe it's what i said about damaging data. It might be something like with WHDLoad installing - if there is wrong data you cannot install game. Try if this occurs with original available here (protection codes are also available).

Edit: Also source code and level editor are available here.

I installed using the set of disk with these disk 1's:

... Citadel, The (1995)(Black Legend)(Disk 1 of 5)[cr PDY][aka Cytadela].adf
... Citadel, The (1995)(Black Legend)(Disk 1 of 5)[cr PDY][f HD PDY][aka Cytadela].adf

Installation said it was successful:

...but when running it sits on this screen and doesn't progress:

If I play using the floppy disks, it shows that screen and then loads.

Ok so I got it installed, basically it would not let me install it on any other partition other than dh0: which is annoying.

And now it's installed it gets stuck on same screen as DamienD. Wtf

That's why the only sensible way in 2020 would be a PROPER WHDLoad version. I guess HD fix of original may never happen

So is here anyone with Mantis account, please?

@DamienD
I just install game from original version and it works.

Did You run game from shell? It must be run without startup-sequence and with setpatch running before game as shown in mentioned movie.

Edit:
@Rabidgerry
Try install by device name, in my case Games:
Directory Citadel is made by installer itself.

Anyway, in my case installer must be run with cache disabled, game can be run with cache.

Great, thanks, Solo

You may also want to warn WHDLoad Team to load it from diskettes for comparison of speed, otherwise they may get crazy dealing with installer

So don't install in DH0: by itself

Install like this DH0:Games?

I did this on other partitions and it didn't work

I tried:

DH2:CitadelHD

Did not work.

If I delete the current installation what all must I remove?
And how do I disable cache? In sysinfo?

Ok I installed again in different partition and still get stuck at the same stage.

Question, is there any way to get back to workbench without having to reset?

Oh my... so not only do you need to install not via Workbench, you also have to run the game not via Workbench...

Tested and this works

Why after installation and running the game, do you need to insert "Disk 4" before the main menu?

No clue why, but installed Citadel simply requires to still keep disk 4 in the drive.

No, You must run game from shell not from Workbench.

1. boot with no startup-sequence (as for install)
2. enter setpatch
3. enter cd DH2:CitadelHD/Citadel (when You install there)
4. enter Citadel

Game should run this way.

Maybe a crack for the HD version - released by the Prodigy after their initial floppy release - will help with that. In the Zone. Just copy the cracked HD exec in the archive over the old one installed on hard drive and then launch it from shell. Let us know how you go with it....

Oh ok, so I ran from shell also and got it to load. But obviously the disks I have are not cracked because I could not skip the security question at the start! Looks like I will need the manual now!

Protection codes are available on PPA page mentioned before.

Edit: If You want it little more comfortable make simple script with any name (e.g. Citadel or cit for short)
Code:
setpatch
cd DH2:CitadelHD/Citadel
Citadel
And put it to C:
You can now simple run this script in shell
