Cannot install Workbench to HD? Read here

I have found that a lot of Workbenchs on the net are NOT incomplete, but when you try to install them in your HD (most commonly, using a virtual drive in a folder in your system instead of an HDF), the install will crash when trying to copy Locale files.

This is due to the files with strange characters like ñ, é, å, etc... Seems like the emulator does not support writing of these characters onto a virtual HD.

I thought I'd post that because it will help a lot of people and debunk the myth of "Workbench disks in the net which are incomplete".

Try to use an HDF or just use a manual install and skip copying the Locale files. Who needs them anyway :P
You will get this error with any software that has catalogs in languages with "strange" characters in their filenames.

Which emu are you using?

I've installed every WB up to 3.1 on Virtual HDs (directories) with no problems.

E-UAE.
But I recently seen someone with the same error on WinUAE.

Every file that has strange chars is failing to copy.

Odd. I've also never had any problems installing any version of Workbench to a virtual HD using WinUAE.

I don't tend to use a Workbench install script though. I normally just copy the contents from the Workbench disk set over to the root of the HD manually via the shell.

When I did my 1200 config on WinUAE I copied the Locale files no problem. Maybe that's a problem that's isolated to E-UAE? I dunno.

I use hard drive directories btw, if it helps to deepen the mystery.

This does not happen in WinUAE. Only if you copy files outside of emulation.

Well it doesn't work even if you copy maually. It says it has a problem with the destination filee. It might be a problem with e-Uae, couldn't find the thread where this guy complained to check on his emulator.
