Perfect LCD monitor for use with AMiGA
Dear AMiGA users!
I have recently bought new Samsung 225MW LCD monitor with tv tuner. It has plenty of possible connections - DVI-D, VGA, Composite, HDMI, SCART RGB. I have connected my Amiga with composite cinch cable and picture was poor. So I have made AMIGA - Scart RGB cable. The picture is of amazing quality! Also 640x512 a 1280x512 interlaced modes are not blinking! No FlickerFixer is needed! The quality of cable used for this connection is very important for clear picture! I can recommend to make it from IBM PC VGA cable - every color is shielded. Here is the scheme: Pins 22 are connected using resistors. And here are live screenshots from Samsung 225MW made with digital camera: 640x256 640x512: and 1280x512 - monitor is set to Wide mode: Last edited by TherioN; 27 July 2007 at 13:57. |

Unfortunately the ones shipped to AU will have component instead of scart.

For all graphics modes are you using Amiga->Scart cable or Amiga->VGA cable?

that Samsung monitor is not perfect for the Amiga cause is a 16:10 aspect ratio
a perfect monitor for the amiga should be 4:3 yes or yes |

well 16:10 is just scale of 16:9
16:9 is a 3 to 1 ratio of 4:3, so its a simple scale up, wich wont corrupt any of the graphics. From the look of the pictures, it really looks great! and i cannot wait to see if my 42" plasma will scale / FF image through RGB scart lol. I would love to see what a game looks like on it. so might i request Therion, please postie a pic of a game |

I think that you should back to the school again because I see that your math' teacher was a simian of the jurassic period 16:9 is a 3 to 1 ratio of 4:3, so its a simple scale up |

the closest you'll get to 4:3 from 16:9 is 4:2.25 or 5.3333333:3 |

it was 11 past mid-night.... and i had been drinking.... the drunkard i am...
its my defense and imma sticking to it. hmmm funny... my maths teacher did indeed have that "missng link" look about him now that i think about it.... wierd, looking at it now i can see what ass my brain was up.. as 16 is divisilbe by 4, as 9 is divisible by 3.... hence 4:3 is the square of 16:9 this number would have little to do with aspect ratio LOL sorry for the cunfusions guys, i will in endervor in the future to mark all post <Drunkard> or <Past Midnight, Info at readers discretion> hmmm meh... more drinkage tonight |

Btw, most Amiga displaymodes are not 4:3 or 16:9. Ever notice the rectangular pixels in uninterlaced modes?

Yeah, 720x576 and 640x512 PAL is a ratio of 5:4, so i imagine the displays will all need scaling or not use full screen to get the right display ratio.

it doesn't matther that some resolutions are not 4:3
utilities and games are designed to run on a 4:3 1084s monitor or a 4:3 TV 16:9 or 16:10 TV are designed to watch DVD or digital TV that support that aspect ratio |

and most if not all widescreen (Say this to cover all aspects) tv's etc allow the image to be stretched etc, so it's not really relevant!

the hero of any game will look fat but if you configure not stretched you will see black areas at the left and the right of the screen...and that's ugly so..I still prefer a 4:3 monitor for computers and a 16:9 for films bye |

btw..I forget
there's another mistake for example on the standart resolution 1280x1024 cause is not a 4:3 resolution...however some ppl use it on 4:3 monitors the image using that resolution on a 4:3 monitor will be bad....anyways there's a few difference and nobody note it But like Im very strict and I like perfect images I use 1280x960 instead |

So the solution to get 640x512 on a 4:3 display is to use 1280x1024 resolution display. Otherwise if you stretch the image you lose the aspect ratio and also sharpness on LCD.
Anyone care to comment why that is not the perfect resolution for PAL amiga display modes? |
