Amiga explorer installation

So, I recently got my old Amiga 500 out again. And I am now trying to set it up so i can transfer from my pc. Never done that before.

I am trying to install amiga explorer but get the following error message
I type in workbench
"type ser: to ram:setup"

As instructed, I then get the message: Can't open SER:

I am sure others have had the same issue, but I have been unable to find an answer searching the forums.
I apologize if this has been answered a million times before.
Hope someone can help me out.

You need a complete Workbench disk, not a stripped down one. For this specific problem it might be that Port-Handler is missing from L:. Or another program is using the serial port.

okay, thanks.
That does kind of suck though.
Had an original workbench disk as well, but seems it is corrupted.

Is there anythng to do? or do I need to find a working workbench on an amiga disk somewhere

Try to rescue Port-Handler from your corrupted disk and copy it to the L directory on your current boot disk.
