Can a PAL 1084s run on 240VAC @ 60Hz?

I have acquired a PAL 1084S-D2 which I want to use with my PAL A1200.
I live in the US, so planned to use a step up transformer for power.
My concern is the 60Hz AC frequency that the transformer will output.

Does anyone know if powering the 1084s at 60Hz AC will be a problem?

I have a stepdown for some Japanese stuff I have and looking at the specs on it it deals with the 50Hz -> 60Hz conversion too. So if you check the specs before purchase and buy the right kind you probably don't need to be worried about it.

As for if the 1084S would care about 60Hz AC input... no idea

What model of step-down is that? Most would just contain a transformer and not change the AC frequency.

Hi, changing AC voltages is relatively straightforward when using a step-up or step-down transformer, but as you mention the frequency does not change. Changing frequencies is much harder.

However not all equipment needs the exact AC-frequency, lighting, heating, computers and stereo equipment often run on 50–60 Hz. The main issues being motors and electromechanical timers, tape recorders, washing machines etc.

I think the 1084S-D2's were made in South Korea by Daewoo?, what does it say on the backside of your monitor?

If so I think it most likely will work without problem on 220V/60Hz since that is what they have as mains in South Korea, and it would surprise me if they didn't test the devices using a regular outlet. However I'm not 100% sure. Often the internal PSU rectifies the mains to DC almost as soon as it hits the circuit board (Then uses a switching circuit to make high frequency AC, to then transform that to extra low voltage AC, then rectify it again, at least in a more modern TV)...meaning 10Hz difference won't make a squat of difference to the normal functioning.

However if you want to play it safe and not live up to your nick. You can get an inexpensive car power inverter device (ballpark 50-70 bucks) for converting low voltage (12V or 24V) DC source into AC power source, designed to produce 220V/50Hz from a car battery. That source obviously doesn't have to be a 12V car battery but can instead be a standard 12V bench-supply or similar capable of delivering enough juice to the inverter.

If service manual for D2 is same as for D1 version then yes, power supply is switched type and use DC current (bridge rectifier at the input) so AC frequency is irrelevant.

This wasn't expensive - so if you guys think it's doing something fancy, it's probably just lies

But it works fine for my X68000 & Nuon, so that's all I wanted it for.

How much does it weigh?

Interesting, I googled pictures on that SD-50 device and I only get pics that say Output 100V/50Hz, but yours clearly says 60Hz on the box. Did you check if it really outputs 60Hz?

Thanks for all the help. Tested the monitor last night and its working perfectly at 220VAC @60Hz
