First thing first, do you have a Workbench installation, and is the game on AmigaDOS formatted discs or are they custom formatted?

look in the Zone!
Is a mini HDF with only minimun of lib's necessary for workbench start and a directory for the installed game. This work too in other games.
Need kickstart 3.1 and the particular configuration for each game

Or download GameBase Amiga which is a frontend for WinUaE and also allows you to load KG's WHD collection without the need to setup a hd or workbench.

http://gbamiga.elowar.com
http://guildserver.co.uk/kgwhd/

edit

I'd wait until later today before downloading it though as we're releasing the new version later on.

Waxworks ADFs aren't in GameBase Amiga yet which is why the play game button is faded.

The WHDLoad version is supported though, and these appear under the Extras button.

As long as you've downloaded the KGWHD packs and have them in a folder called WHDLoad, and of course set the paths in GameBase correctly you shouldn't have any problems.

Read the helpfile that comes with GameBase Amiga for more detailed instructions.

For an explanation on WHD you should read this faq.

KGWHD is a collection of these WHD installed games that he's personally assembled and made available for everyone to download and enjoy and you can download them here.

edit:

If you just want to download individual WHD games you should download them from http://www.whdownload.com/

The Extras folder has to be the parent of the WHDLoad dir.
  • Extras <-- this is (one of) your GB Extras dir(s)
    • WHDLoad
      • ...
      • Waxworks_v1.1_2274.zip
      • ...

Create it anywhere you like (it doesn't have to be called Extras either, e.g. you could use D:\GBAExtras\ or whatever you like), just make sure that your WHDLoad dir (with the KGWHD zips) is inside it and that you set it (the Extras dir) as an Extras path in GameBase.

kickstart roms are copyrighted so you aren't allowed to request them on here.

Kickstart ROMs are still copyrighted so legally, you need to buy them with Cloanto's Amiga Forever.

He's all set up to play waxworks now, and because he's using GameBase Amiga, so all he has to do in future to play whd games is download the kgwhd install and put the zip in the right directory

So re: gamebase amiga, why don't you use it?
