I had a go at this game yesterday. This was on the first batch of games we got for our Amiga, and I always remembers it as being extremely hard... our version was trained, I played with infinite money, fuel, body, tyres and engines, always having the best car, all upgrades and all... and I *still* couldn't beat the game, never won class 3.

Playing without cheats makes the game feel impossibly hard. You don't get enough money from wins, you have to choose the order of tracks very wisely, tyres, fuel and engine wear to fast, overtaking cars is a pain in the ass, the opposition has much better cars than you very early in the game.

I'll do my best, but from my first try yesterday I believe I won't have a chance to qualify to the next round.

Hint: the game is much easier when you start with tracks 9, 8, 7...

I know, but sometimes may be strategic to win the easier races first so you can get money to buy a better car earlier....

Played 2 games of it today. Shouted "FUCK THIS GAME" about 16 times.

The game is a lot fun, but feels a lot unfair many times. It's really annoying to get 2nd place then spend all the money you won fixing your car. And why the hell you have "Engine" and "Fuel" when both deplete at the same time?

What's the deadline to send scores?

There is a newer WHDLoad version available (1.3):

Code:
VERSION 1.2: (13-Jun-2013)
- Stackframe fix added for 68010 users (thanks to Dennis for the bug report)
- Updated installer script

VERSION 1.3: (21-Apr-2015)
- Updated imager to handle some GBH editions more efficiently. The game
  slave itself has not changed!
- Source code included
Only benefits 68010 users it seems...

Is it mandatory to use version 1.1 though?

Good luck all!

I was reading the League round thread... I am not sure if my score should be 11 million or 12 million. Does the "Results desk" show the amount of played races or beaten races?

It shows beaten races, so you got it right.

And I totally understand the shouting at this game. It's hard and a bit cruel and all the bumping. Not sure I'll get the hang of it in one week.

I believe I may have a masochist tendency when playing games, so I'm still enjoying it though

I manage to buy the Vaug Interceptor 3.0 before I get to class 2.

But then in Class 2 I am struggling to win races, getting lots of 2nds and 3rds, so I can't get money to buy a Retron Parsec. So, that's it, I just suck at this game

I also have to add I had 2 games of this today, the 1st one ended when I threw my controller away and it hit the shelf where the amiga is after I got a very early 2nd place. I thought it was better to just turn off the game and come back later

It's not you, it's the Vaug Interceptor. Always skip this car. You can win races 1, 2 and 5 in class 2 with the standard non-upgraded car. By then you should have enough money to get the Retron Parsec 5L.
If class 1 goes well and you can negotiate the price down to 155k you can already buy the 5L before the end of class 1.

NO I CAN'T I AM NOT GOOD ENOUGH I AM NOT WORTHY.....

Thanks for the tip, I'll try this. I don't think I can even win all class 1 races without at least upgrading my car in a few ones. But I'll try it

There is this 'feature' in the WHDLoad version:

Code:
Whenever you press 'S', the settings are saved to disk (unless you cheated
and used *any* of the above codewords). To recall your previously saved
settings, enter "LOAD" as your name. "LOAD" will appear as the default name
if a save file was found. The name will be replaced in game by the original
name you used from when you first created the save game.
Does this fall under item 3 mentioned in below rules?

Code:
Don't tamper with your score by altering the numbers.
No continues allowed.
No use of trainers, action replay, or any other get-around to make the game easier.
No use of emulator save states (including as a way to practise parts of a game).

It does. Basically a savestate. So don't use it.

You are allowed to practice class 2 and 3 with the passwords ODIE and BIGC though.

Just a reminder that we're now into the second and final week of this round. There are still five players yet to post a score, but there's still plenty of time and it looks like it's turning into quite a competitive round.
