DIMM-->SIMM socket adapters?
As you know, when it comes to overclocking (in this case a BPPC) the main problem is finding good & fast memory to cope with the overclocking. Now i had to disable the PPC precharges as my memory just won't cope otherwise (clocked 240mhz --> 256mhz). The infamous powerpc-exceptions keep coming if i enable precharges. Not to mention 266mhz or just 66mhz for the 68k-part...
So i thought: is there somewhere an adaptor that one could fit a faster DIMM or DDR memory module and connect this adapter to a BPPC for example? That way the memory speed wouldn't be a problem anymore, just proper cooling. I tried to google for these kind of adapters but failed. Do these things exist anywhere ? |

you can try and source 50ns memory, that would be your best bet,
I am pretty sure a convert / adapter could be built but it would require a fair bit more of extra logic and clock to function correctly. I am not aware of any such adapter in existence as of yet to be honest. so yeah.... hunt for 50ns ram. |

Thanks Zetro, i have been huntin' some 50ns modules, but then a problem rises:
You can only find 50ns SIMMs in max. 64mb flavor not 128mb, am i right? e.g. OS4 has the OWB-browser in development, and it is claimed to require a hefty amount of RAM. So two 60ns 128mb SIMMs should do the trick for OS4. But for WB 3.9 i would need 50ns RAM, and that's two 64mb SIMMs. Not enough for OS4 in the long run... So who's able to build one for these memory converters ? I'm buying a couple of them right away !! I'm sure many other would be interested too, because old SIMMs can be expensive and slooow compared to newer DIMMs. Last edited by Bamiga2002; 11 March 2008 at 23:34. |

LOL i think it might be out of my realms of ability for the moment lol,
I will say though the biggest bottleneck would infact be the bandwidth of the 72pin port. Looks like a lot of reading!!! |

FWIW:
Don't forget the 'glue logic' in these cards can play a role in limiting overclocking potential. Can be a bugger as custom chips often have little headroom while being hard to replace if you inadvertently let the magic smoke out. |

It's not a DRAM to SDRAM adapter it's a whole new turbo card with an SDRAM controller!!

yeah, thats what i was on about, proving that SDRAM with an 060 is possible..
with enough logic (notes some nice 144 Macro-cell XILINX CPLD's) ... sigh... here is another hardware pronza shot mmm why cannot not have that fo my miggy?! I am still amazed its only a 30pin interface to the Atari Bus though... well from what i can see of it atleast... |

Most top end Amiga users have 68060 already or PPC. Making good returns on such a product unlikely. Plus Rodolphe spent like 5 years developing it and a further 8 developing it's prequals. You got 12 years to spare working up to it? |

Btw, there are also EDO DRAM DIMMs, I have a bunch. Usually 32 or 64MB apiece.

It costed 300 € including a 60 MHz CPU. I just had to buy some RAM.
Also, in addition th what alexh said, Rodolphe also had a market for 68k fanatics. When the CT60 was designed, most Amiga fans were only looking at PPC solutions whereas Atari fans were simply looking for an accelerator. I'm quite convinced that, with today technology, you can easily build something similar for the Amiga, but who will do that while "active" people are looking for PPC upgrades ? |

if 68x is moto = good
then the Antichrist (or said inverse) of such said would be x86 i dont know if the irony would be lost on anyone |

My irony is quite rusty these days.
. . . . Still, stange as it may seem a miggy x86 accelerator + 68k EMU could make sense... |
