A3000 31khz problem

My A3000 does want to work properly with a 15 pin monitor. It flickers from side to side quite bad and the adjustment screw seems to make no difference. The particular monitors do definately work well on a A3000 just not this one.

Any ideas?

Try to reseat the Amber chip?

Look inside and see if there is a lot of rust on / around the connectors.

The adjustment screw usually is only turned fractions of a revolution. May be worth turning it from one extreme to the other in very small (no more than 10 degree) turns.

I tried 3 different amber chips with no luck. Also tried very small adjustments. Could the pot be damaged in any way? Is there any other socketed chips i could try to replace.

You will require a TV or 15KHz monitor and the right cables / A520 but you should check to make sure the 15kHz output (normal Amiga video) is ok.

You could replace the Super Denise chip which feeds the Amber.

I would imagine it is more likely to be broken capacitors / resistors / rust than a bad chip.

The 15khz output is nice and clean. Have changed the Denise with no luck. Will chuck the meter on the resistors and caps to find out if any are dotty.
