Monitors and Workbench 2.1

I have an Amiga 2500/HF. It has a 030 processor, 8MB of RAM and the ECS. I am trying to change the monitor selection. I copied the monitor I want to change to into the Devs/Monitors drawer, restarted the maching and tried to select it in Prefs/Screenmode. I can't do it. Any ideas about what I need to do next?

Monitors and Workbench 2.1

I can't select ANY of the monitors I added to Devs/Monitors. The only two available are PAL and ntsc.

thats probably because the others wont work on a normal monitor.

what monitor are you using for display?
and which drivers are you trying to use?

The 1084S and the VGA only monitor. Matthew @ amigakit told me that I needed the Denise 8373 chip.

I have an adapter to connect my VGA monitor, if I can select the right driver to display.

i dont think any of them sync up far anough to work on a vga monitor, im sure some of them only sync to around 29khz and a vga monitor is around 31khz.

Monitor

I have several monitors that I think will work. The problem is that I can only select PAL and NTSC in Prefs/Screenmodes and I have been told that to be able to select the other monitors, I need a Super Denise chip--which I don't have.

Yep, you need an ECS Denise chip in order to output modes other than PAL and NTSC. There's one on eBay at the moment, item 121033055713. (I'm not vouching for the seller, I just noticed the listing.)

Replacing the original Denise chip is fairly straightforward though you would need to remove the metal drive cage to reveal the Amiga motherboard.

Without an RTG board (ReTargeted Graphics) to handle higher screen dimensions (resolutions), colors, and drawing speeds, you are limited to only a couple of standard Amiga screen modes. The RTG cards begin in cost from around $100; if that is was you want then I have a couple I'd sell.

RTG needs Kick/WB 3.0 and a 68020 at least.

Wink That is wishful thinking

But several RTGs were pre-3.0 such as the Retina Z2, EGS Spectrum 24/28, and Domino. As for the 68020 requirement, I'd have to check. Picasso96 does require ver 3.x to run. But all of those cards shipped with their own setups.

I guess, my dear Scarlette, it depends on what you need those extra monitor resolutions for.
